An idea that probably either needs to be built on or left in the dust

Description
Maybe this has been done before but it just popped into my head so I thought I'd see how fans reacted

I think that overall the value is decent and it does help fill a need for both teams, even of fans don't find it to be ideal. I know some Wild fans don't want Nylander as they are unsure if he fills a need at top 6 C. I also know that some Leafs fans just think that Dumba would be Barrie 2.0. All I can say is that I disagree with both takes

I also think this leaves both teams open to further moves this offseason

It needs to be thrown out entirely. Nylander is so much better than Dumba.

Stop, leafs do NOT need Dumba. He's literally a Tyson Barrie that throws that occassional hit. Esp for $6M, that's steep. And DEFINITELY not for the price of nylander haha

It makes no sense for either side. Minnesota can't take on the 7 million and has a critical need at first line Center.

Both teams say no. Dumba isn't the d-man TOR needs. The dropoff in talent from 9oa to 15oa is too big for MN.

I don’t think Dumba is barrie 2.0 or even that the trade is unfair but he’s just not at all a fit for Toronto

That’s not entirely true. I wonder if they don’t take askarov then the pick gets traded to around this spot. That’s where the next tier of centers is going to be.

I see the dropoff at 11 or 12 (depending on who takes the goalie). Sanderson, Holtz, Lundell, the goalie run to that point. I see the drop after them. It's about the same point (12/13) as last year's draft where I thought the dropoff was after Sodstrom and the goalie were picked. Boldy was supposed to go higher (I think that will be Holtz this year), but fits into that same tier.

If it’s not askarov, I have a hard time not taking Holtz at 9. I’d love Lundell but I think it’s the time to take a risk.

I would love Nylander but I really want to keep 9 OA.

it could be a trade floor deal if the guy the leafs really want is available at 9 and the guy Minny likes looks to be available a few picks later.

I don't understand any leaf fan that says he's not what we need. He's a skilled d-man that would fit in with our offensive style of play and he can also play a physical game...and shoots with that magical right hand. I personally wouldn't want to give up Nylander for him...but I would like to see him in a Toronto uniform. From the minny playoff games I've watched, he also seems like he willingly amps up the grittiness at that time of year.

He doesn't solve all our problems...which is why I wouldn't want to give up Nylander for him...but I believe he makes our blueline much better.

I think if Holtz is there at 9 it's because Lundell is gone already. I don't think anyone jumps on the goalie or Sanderson before that.

If Tor had a quality partner for Rielly already then Dumba would be a guy to go after to play with Muzzin to have a very good top-4. Rielly/Dumba isn't a good pair.

Who says it has to be Rielly he pairs with? All Rielly needs is someone who is positionally sound and doesn't frantically bat the puck in his direction at the first hint of a forecheck (a la Cody Ceci). I think a Dumba-Muzzin pairing would be fun
