I'll say this - on paper it's a step back. But thinking optimistically, it's set up to be a great year for the younger guys trying to solidify themselves. If Kyrou can score like a 2nd liner, if Blais can stay healthy and hold down a middle six role, if Sanford can repeat his production with less time attached to ROR and Perron, if Dunn can carry a top 4 workload, if Perunovich and Kostin can get a call up and get their feet wet, then the team will be successful. That's a ton of "ifs" and it can be uncomfortable, but some internal growth has to happen if the Blues are going to be a sustainable contender. Not always gonna be able to go out and trade for exactly what you need, gotta see some organic growth.

That is still a pretty damn solid D Core if you ask me.

I can't think of many teams that you can remove a top pairing RHD from and still be ahead of the curve in its makeup.

teams can benefit from losing a top player in Free Agency, look at columbus and Isles for example. Everybody has to step up though

it all depends if Perunovich can play at the NHL level, he put up similar numbers to Makar, which is a good sign

Exactly, plus you're looking at about $9m in cap space to make adjustments after you've seen what the team looks like without Petro (when Steen, Boz, Gunny come off the books). I've been about 50/50 on whether he stays or leaves for a long time now, and tbh I've gotten pretty comfortable with either situation, maybe even more comfortable with seeing him walk (depending on what the contract looks like when it's all said and done).

Not that big a deal TBH. Guys playing on the bottom pair on ELC's is a treat if they can contribute. Gunnarsson waiting in the press box if things don't go as planned there.

With or without Peitro, you guys are in pretty good shape on the back end.
