So it's Laffy for Tkachuk & Byfield...

So Ottawa lose Tkatchuk and get's Laffy and Rossi... hummm that's alot to think... very interesting but on a rebuilt team like Ottawa... I would choose 3 Assets over 2 even if one of them is Laffy

I’m not a fan of either team I thought it was funny that Jimmy Hayes would say such a thing. I don’t think he’s ever broken a trade before.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Melnyk doesn’t wanna pay Tkachuk tho.

not worth it for OTT, they trading a known good young player for a unknown, even if it is 1st OA, Tkachuk and 3rd OA worth more than 1st alone as we do not know if Laf is going to live up to the hype, Jack Hughes and Kakko certainly did not in their first season for all the hype they had, neither did Nolan Patrick or Niko Hishier or Galchenyuk and Yakupov.

To be honest, which first round pick (that actually had size unlike Hughes) had this much hype all year. Last ones I can think of (albeit he may not be on this level) were McDavid and mackinnon. Everyone has seen what dahlin has done, and he had hype (although it’s hard to compare since he’s a defenseman). Laf blew away the numbers the 1st rounders you mentioned in the CHL.

But yeah, this is essentially what it would take for the rangers to make the trade, yes it’s an overpayment but that’s what it would take.

every year the "consensus" the #1 ranked player is always compared to Crosby, McDavid ect ect, they did it with Hughes googly Jack Hughes compared to McDavid and there a articles of hockey annalists comparing him to McDavid, next year will be the same

the difference is like i said, hughes is 5'9"-5'10" and 165 pounds, lafreniere is 6'1" 190. That's why I mentioned size. He's built better to make the jump to the NHL. Matthews was over 6' and 200 when he first started. McDavid was 6'1" 195 when he was drafted. Keep in mind, Lafreniere outproduced MacKinnon in the CHL, so while yes he may not be as good as MacKinnon overall (in terms of full potential) the talent is definitely there. In my mind, a very successful season from any 1st overall pick in the league would be 40-50 points on the third line, 50-60 on the second, and 60-70 on the first. You generally build from there
