Description
With the slow in news as usual at the end of the year felt like continuing a thought posed by Pierre Lebrun.

Is it worth it to secure 8 years of AP, and what would the cost be/ value worth to a team?

8 years is just another mistake, Pietrangelo is great, but hes not going to be great in that 5th/6th year and on of that contract

I’ve been thinking about this a lot this morning. First, I’d be shocked if the Blues give up on him and forfeit their biggest advantage to signing him. I expect them to ride it out to the end. That being said, I kinda think they could get a lot in return if they actually did it. They’d be 1. Insuring a team gets him 2. Providing them close to a million in salary relief for 8 seasons 3. Actually allowing him to get an extra year. That’s a pretty damn good service that they’re doing for a team that I could see being worth a lot.

Don’t have the cap space or the interest and and sign and trade not happening anyway.

i think in order to sign someone to an 8 year deal, they need to have been on that team prior to the trade deadline

I’m on the same page in terms of value it provides, whether or not he’s worth it for 8 years is regardless. If edmundson got a 4th to get an early signing I believe giving a team that 8th year at whatever price is worked out between all 3 camps involved is huge for the team that is willing to put that much effort and stock into signing him early.

I think the 2nd is the lowest value Blues would ask cause they got nothing to gain by giving them the service of the extra year

The premise is that the Blues sign the contract with another team’s terms and then trade him which basically never happens anyways.

Pierre Lebrun just posed the question and I thought it was a good question to ask. Blues inform AP __blank__ is interested in signing you ASAP and wants 8 years, here’s their price blah blah. Workout the deal and then trade him after a signing. AP would know he’s being traded in this situation

I personally think the blues need to keep him but at 5-6 years which he likely wants more.

And I wouldn’t want to offer him above 10

I’d like to see a 9.3 x 5 years which honestly I believe is a realistic and fair offer. The blues easily can move bozak I think which would be a huge help
