Transition to Playoff Contender

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 24, 2020
Published: Sep. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some moves to shore up the rebuild. Nothing major as the rebuild seems to be going well. I have a couple of concerns with the below roster: a) do we need a legit #1 goalie or de we wait out the prospects, b) do we need to bring in some vet support for the youngsters or do we let them ride this out ala the Sens in 1997 (I was at the playoff clinching game vs. Buffalo BTW and it was awesome!).

i like the idea of offering some guys to the kraken to take zaitsev. But i dont think we need ADA, we have JBD ready for the right side soon and we already have an undersized offensive dman in brannstrom waiting to get more minutes

I dont want Deangelo personally and i think it would take more for NYR to move him. Tierney is worth way more than this,

FYI Lucas Raymond can't play in the NHL next season, He's contractually obligated to his Frolunda team for another season.

I think Cobra is worth at least a 2nd and a prospect. Guy is 25 and put up 40 pts without PP time on a terrible Ottawa team.

What's the ballpark of his value? He's on the block according to TSN's Trade Board and with Trouba, Fox and Lundkvist on the right side, he's expendable. NY also needs to clear some cap space. What do you think they'd look for in return?

For me it comes down to Brannstrom's eventual landing spot. Sens want him at LD, he likes RD better. If he goes LD, then I think they can use one guy at that position. Possibly Drysdale at the #5 pick.

Whether it's Deangelo or another upper echelon RD, I think the Sens should be at least inquiring to add some depth there. JBD and Thomson are coming and I have great faith they'll pan out, but they have yet to prove they are NHL dmen.

Agreed on Tierney, I just don't see where he fits into the lineup eventually.

You might be right. I think we might overvalue him as Sens fans, but he is certainly a player who contributes to his team. I'd be happy to keep him, but where does he fit long term?

Tierney gets a 2nd and B prospect considering hes under team control too. We should look for a shutdown dman, thats what we need in our top 4, not another offensive dman. Bad thing is that there arent any available and theyre pretty rare. Carlo/Ekblad/Pesce/Jones/Seider etc

Ekblad/Pesce would be dream d to acquire. I wonder the cost though.

I mean he's being shopped around to see if anyone is going to bite on their high ask. If they were concerned about clearing cap space they'd trade Trouba lol.

His value is ridiculously high. Like absurdly high. Like you're going to instantly reject it high.

    He's got more on-ice value/60 than....Chabot.

    Screen-Shot-2020-09-24-at-1-28-33-PM

Over the last 2 seasons he grades out as the 11th best dman in the league in terms of on-ice value, which considering the d partner and system is bound to go up.

    Screen-Shot-2020-09-24-at-1-33-35-PM

So I guess the simplest way to calculate it is take what you'd accept in return for Chabot, and that's probably in the ballpark for Deangelo.

Interesting. Thanks for the stats. He’s an impressive player. I am genuinely curious to see what the return will be if he gets traded.

me too...but given his performance almost any realistic trade would probably be an undersell.

first off, he has to replicate it to get high value to show he can do it more than once. Hes not a better defender than Chabot, hes an offensive specialist in my book and he played with much better players than Chabot did to get those points. I just see him as another Ristolainen except hes a bit better. At career best he might be an OEL who knows
