now, before everyone goes nuts, i dont think it is in the canes best interest to make a trade like this. A deal like Pesce for Ehlers makes a lot more sense. But if the canes don't like the idea of paying him near 9 Million dollars for about six months of production, a trade like could make sense. Jets get a norris candidate defenseman, Canes get basically Finland's national team's top line. Also, I don't know if Canes need to add so suggest something in the comments.

Again, I don't like this trade but it could make sense. Major emphasis on COULD

Dougie would need to be traded with an extension attached but the value is pretty close imo. Personally I don’t think it makes the canes a better team, but laine would be great on the canes. The issue would be the canes wouldn’t have a power play quarterback at the point. It’s hard to replace dougie but you also can’t find players like laine often

gardiner could run power play one, has experience with that back in toronto. and i agree, but extensions can work both way here since laine is also on a one year deal

He couldnt run a powerplay last year thats for sure. The canes would look to acquire a right shot dman who can run the powerplay

Jets can’t do 1 for 1 with laine, need multiple pieces with team control, Just too many holes for a final piece type move. Carolina could still be a destination, but would need some different pieces in return. Wpg isn’t as close as Carolina in cup contender status

Without a reasonable length term and dollar extension in place for Hamilton, the deal doesn't work for Winnipeg.

If Dougie is willing to sign, jets should 100% make that deal

disagree, dude ran power play unit 2 extremely well, never understood why slavin was leading unit one when dougie went down

I mean he got better as the year went on and I’m ok to see if he continues to improve in year 2, but I don’t think you can say he did much extremely well
