I'm new to this so I don't know how to indicate the Habs will lose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder but they will.

Why did I structure it like this? Because the Habs would have to lose a significant contract in order to take on Kuch. Pacioretty for Kuch isn't an upgrade, or even enough of an upgrade. Emelin and Desharnais would both have to go and have little to no trade value. So Plekanec, who has value.

Plus, you have to look at next year. Galchenyuk, Radulov, Andrighetto will need to be resigned. If we turf DD now who's contract expires next year we have no significant cap space freeing up. The cap won't increase enough to resign them all. Pleky has two years left, so we have his 6 mill towards Kuch and Desharnais contract can be used towards everyone else.

But who is going to take on Pleky's 6 m without a lot of sweetner? There are not that many teams with enough cap space to take on a guy who at best will be a 2L C, so you can be sure this will post more pics and prospects, depending on who will take Pleky and what they need.

The only reason that Tampa would trade Kucherov is to trade rid themselves of "cap". Exchanging 7m for 6m salaries doesn't work for Tampa.

I agree which is why I said in my comment above this would be first a trade to whoever would take Pleky plus an offer sheet to Kuch. I just didn't know how to reflect that in the post.

A 7 years 7 million offer sheet to Kucherov would cost more then that. Based on the CBA the comp value is determined by the total salary of the deal divided by which ever is smaller the total number of years on the deal or 5 years. So in essence this Kuch offer sheet is (7*7) 49/5 (lesser of 7 and 5) which equals 9.8 which is 4 first round picks going back to Tampa.

If anyone is going to offer sheet Kucherov you can bet it will be max 7.5 million at 5 years because then it only costs a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounder.

Thanks Stammerman for the math update. Offer sheets are a tangly beast.

Oh and I should say there is another reason why I don't think this will work. It seems to me that the Habs would likely have to trade Pleky first or try and have both deals happen at the same time. If they trade Pleky first and Kuch doesn't sign, they've pissed away their #2 centre for nothing. That's not a risk I see them willing to take. So they'll have to try and execute both at once, which seems unlikely. If they sign Kuch and then try and move Pleky to escape cap hell, they're going to be taken to the cleaners.

1. Jersey doesn't need another C
2. Montreal would have to give up a first, second, and third round pick
3. Montreal signed Radulov, who can man the 2nd line, and Gallagher is a legit 2nd liner who can do well on the first line
4. ??? This makes no sense, stop posting

Just throwing this out there, how much is four 1st round picks worth exactly? Because that is a loaded question IMO. Whose first rounders are we talking about here? There is a big difference between asking for Vancouver's next 1st rounders and asking for Chicago's next four.

Really need to put things into perspective here because 1st rounders have become overvalued beyond belief. Lets look at MTL's last four 1st rounders, Sergachev, Juulsen, Scherbak and McCarron. Out of that group, one player there is pretty much set in stone to be a really good player. Sergachev. The others may be really serviceable but elite? Doubt it. Go back even before the last 4 selections. We took Galchenyuk, Beaulieu, Tinordi and Leblanc. Only one of those players is an "elite. type player. Galchenyuk.

So in short, if the next 4 players in trade get you an elite talent now. I'm not sure that is all that bad. By acquiring a guy like Kucherov, your essentially improving the odds of not finishing in the bottom 3rd of the league anyway.

Yeah I know four 1st rounders is a lot but if it gets you one star-superstar type player in return, I'm all for it. The odds are against a team drafting 2 star studded players out of 4 1st round picks. There's also the fact that look at other teams draft records. Some haven't drafted a star 1st rounder in longer than 4 years.

If your somewhat confident that your team will be competitive within the next 4 years and you have somewhat young enough core of players already, making the offer sheet for star player is worth the investment. Like i said, it depends on whose 1st rounders we're talking about here. If it was Vancouver's or Edmonton's, I'd be way more hesitant. A team that has been a solid playoff team the past little while and has a good core in place? Hell yeah.

Hey your back! Gearing up for another season of trolling or are you going to be adding something to the debate?

1) No one traded to the Bruins.....
2) Your wrong there buddy, see Stammerman's comment. It would be four 1st rounders.
3) Yeah, good catch there. This is a hypothetical scenario as stated from bishopsdad.
4) It really irks me when people say " Stop posting" and then give completely wrong reasons as to why. Come on dude, your post makes no sense.

I in fact say in my description that this isn't going to happen. So reading comprehension is an issue for someone here.

I am just tired of seeing Pacioretty, Beaulieu, picks and the kitchen sink for Kucherov posts. I think the only piece the Habs could/would move would be Pleky. But the Lightening won't take him so I tried to figure out a way it could happen. This is about the only way - huge cap dump trade followed by offer sheet and prayer.

I used Boston because the system made me use someone. But I think I'll use Boston now in my next 5 posts to hopefully irritate Bust Boy here.

You didn't even use Boston. You used NJ but used the Boston draft pick they have as your return for the trade. That's all.
