What if we remove Subban? he has had 1 stellar year and then a nosedive. Haven't I read he's a bad locker room presence? It's been year since I've paid attention to him so could be remembering incorrectly.

That's much closer Imo. It would really depend on if Wild think Zacha can be better than he has been or if he is what he has shown so far.

Point taken, I think I will update this. Thank you. I think Zacha is much better for the credit given. He was on pace for 40-45pts this season playing on the 3rd line in NJD. I think more ice time and better wingers would see an up tick in points

I think he is solid, but still has some things to learn, he is only 23. But it is really hard to say right now playing in NJD

Yeah, that's a big fat no. Zacha is a 3rd/4th in NJ thanks to them having Hughes and Hischier, sure, but he isn't that good.

He's not some 1C diamond in the ruff, he's another middle sixer whose ceiling is a 2C. Same as both Strome brothers, who I don't want either.

Our top two targets with Dumba should be Monahan or Cirelli. Secondary should be Danault, Frost, Krebs/Glass, Vilardi, Tomasino.

If you can't land one of those, move him at the draft to move up the draft board with the aim of getting our hands on one of Byfield (unlikely), or Rossi.

Fast Forward 8 months - Dumba negative value (because he has no quality partner in NJ)
Subban back to form as Brodin or Suter carry him (like they carry Dumba)

Got it. You don't think to highly of Dumba, Dumba helps to generate offense if that's what a team needs. If you need a big physical defenseman don't get Dumba.

Zacha is probably more of a 2C. He has plenty of offensive ability and could certainly be a 50+ point center in the right situation. In NJD, he was asked to play more of a checking role. They have never really had a scoring 3rd line, at least not since he arrived. Many of his points came when he played wing - he can play both sides - but when he was at center, he played a more two-way. His defense is an asset.

Subban gets a lot of hate for his big personality, his big contract...etc. but the play on the ice isn’t bad. He is likely more of a 2nd pairing $5mil d-man as opposed to 1st pairing $9 million d-man.

I’d think for this trade to be likely, NJD retain part of Subbans contract. The bonus is paid for this year, so he is due $2 million this year and $8 million next year ($10 million total). I would think NJD retains about $4 million (2 x $2 million).

That probably makes Bastian and/or pick harder to include.
