this is tough, but probably Winnipeg purely because of the length of Webers contract

While I agree with this

Ima say habs, Weber has been incredible at times for his team; he really makes a difference when in their lineup

He could retire before as his contract is heavily front loaded

Would totally do this if I was in Chevy's position, great trade for Winnipeg.

Didn't expect such divisive comments lol. Though this was one sided

This trade is good for Winnipeg on paper in the short term (since they need a top pairing rd more than wheeler) but wheeler is the heart and soul of the team. I don’t see the jets moving him unless he asks to be moved

Good for montreal as well, they get less term and get out of a recapture penalty Weber might have. They also have petry who can step up (he alsresdy does when Weber is injured half the year) and get the best winger on their roster (imo)

Is it really that unrealistic though?

Seems like a decent trade, (in the short term), for both sides.

PS... Is putting "unrealistic" in the thread title by the poster just as banishment worthy as it is for the responders? (Asking for a friend). wink

All in all... I think it is a short term win for both sides. Down the road... it could be pretty dicey for the Jets.

How is it bad long term? At least when Weber can't play anymore he may retire as he isnt owed a lot of money in the last years. Wheeler on the other hand is owed 8.25m in the last year

Any sort of penalties to wpg if he does retire? If not then yeah I mean I guess it’s not that bad. But is it also likely that he’ll just give up? We’ll never know

The penalty if Weber is retiring is on Nashville, which could help you a bit.

No it would distributes among all teams that held that contract based on the time they held it. Vancouver and Florida are being hit with the luongo recapture for example
