Description

Just messing around, don't take this too seriously.

I'm not giving Pietrangelo a buyout proof contract, but I will give him an NMC. OEL will be exposed to Seattle at the expansion draft, I'm thinking they take him, leaving the Oilers wide open to spending money on their forwards next offseason as Broberg will easily be able to step into the lineup at that point.

(FYI I don't particularly like OEL and wouldn't want that contract.)

I think it would take A LOT more than that to get OEL from the team in Arizona.

I refuse to comment on the AP signing on the grounds that it may incriminate me.

PS... What is "Any Team's" cap situation?

Yeah, The Athletic proposed Neal + 2020 1st for OEL, but I can't see that it's worth it for Edmonton. I made a lesser deal but anyone can see that Klefbom, Larsson and Russell are available to get included in that deal.

Really? You think its worth it for Edmonton to give up a 1st for a 30-year-old LHD who is declining* and signed for 7 more years at $8.25M?? Have you looked at the Oilers LHD depth chart in the past decade?!

2016-17: 45.69% (+2.92)
2017-18: 45.76% (-0.47)
2018-19: 43.93% (-2.74)
2019-20: 48.28% (-3.34)

Do you see the decline? OEL isn't as good as Nurse now and he certainly isn't going to be getting better in his 30's. It doesn't make any sense for the Oilers, even if they do get out of Neal's $5.75 x 3 deal. Neal provides something they need, OEL does not.

I think the savings LT proposed (The Athletic proposal was Neal+2020 1st for OEL) was based on AZ buying Neal out, as that would cost them $11.5M over 6 years vs $54M over the next 7 years for OEL. That's HUGE - if they could add the 2020 #14 overall pick to that savings it would be a big win for them. I don't see that it makes any sense for the Oilers, however.
