Description
With the way heinola is playing in the liiga right now, he is going to make the jets imo. 8 points in 8 preseason games? I know it’s preseason but still, very good. I don’t want to get expectations too high, but he might have a big rookie year. I added Samberg to the roster because 1) he is ready as well and 2) he is big and makes the 3rd pairing monstrous. Just in case he isn’t ready, I resigned beaulieu as 7th d.

Now for the trades, for the time being, Danault would be a good fit in Winnipeg. 10th oa is the 2c of the future but until then, danault should be a good option that will let us contend. Anyways, chevy has apparently been after danault since he was in Chicago so he’s clearly a fan. As for the package, danault produces like a low tier 2c but his defense is very good. The market for those types of centres with an extension is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as shown by the pageau and recent 2c rentals by the jets. Therefore, they jets send their 2021 1st, 2021 2nd, and 2021 3rd for danault signed at 5x5.5. For severson, the jets make a 3-way deal:

WPG: Gives: niku, Seuss, and 2022 2nd. Gets: Severson and Sutter
VAN: Gives virtanen and sutter. Gets: Seuss
NJD: Gives: Severson. Gets: Virtanen, Niku, 2022 2nd (WPG)

Does every team get enough? Seems pretty reasonable for all ends to me but I may be biased so comment away!

The value is there for Danault, but if the Habs trade him they'll want a player coming the other way.

Exactly. Fair value but the Habs are only going to trade him if they are getting someone who helps them now

I know he is a prospect but does Vesalainen interest you at all? he is a big scoring winger which you guys seem to be after. Or Roslovic for more immediate help, who has top 6 upside still

NJ Passes

Sevo is the best of the 3 NHL defenseman the Devils have, hes not getting traded. I don't really believe the rumor that things have soured but even if they have NJ doesnt have enough bodies to trade him amd wont unless the package blows them away.

So here's the thing, you say in your description that Danaults value is the same as Pageaus, but he is better then Pageau, so his value is more then Pageau.

You add the fact that there is an extension in place and you definitely get more then what Pageau got.

I think Roslovic more than Vesalainen, simply because he's more established in the NHL. Vesalainen isn't a sure thing yet.

First of all, pageau was on pace for 30+ goals and danault has never broken 20. Pageau was on pace for 51 pts while danault was on pace for 54. The difference between them is goal scoring (which is very expensive in the nhl) which is made up by Danault’s defensive ability. Most of pageau’s pts were while he was playing with far worse players than danault played with for his entire season. That was also a deadline deal so you won’t get more than that in the offseason. Therefore, danault will get about the same as pageau. I rest my case

I mean you can look at any stat except goal scoring and know Danault is better. Total points Danault, 5 on 5 points Danault, xGF, xGA, corsi, and evolving wild analytics all point to Danault being better but sure, Pageau scored more goals so must be better.

First of all, value doesn’t mean who is better. 2nd goal scoring comes at a premium in the nhl. The lightning payed a mid 1st and an A prospect for a cheap 30 goal guy, so there’s a perfect example.

Danault played with the 2 best wingers in montreal all season whereas pageau played with fringe top 6 guys like brown, white, etc and with tkachuk (who was the only guy of note). I’m not saying Danault is worth less than pageau, I’m just saying that he will cost about the same to acquire. Pageau was traded for at the tdl, which makes him more expensive. Pageau’s better goal scoring and danault’s better defensemen balance each other out imo. Imo they will get the same amount right now. Now if you move danault at the tdl, you might be able to get a first + A prospect but that’s the max anyone would give for someone, when all is said and done, is a 50 pt 2c. And that’s with an extension.

Again, I’m not saying that pageau is better, I am simply saying that trading Danault now would yield about the same value. That’s just how the nhl works. Simple as that. Like i know Danault’s defensive game and possession numbers are good but goal scoring comes at a premium and in the end, they have the same production. There not much else left to say.
