Yzerebuild

Created by: CallingOutHomers
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 25, 2020
Published: Sep. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Deadline Helm, Glendenning, Filpulla, Nemeth and Biega are attempted to be shipped for whatever prospect/picks they can attain.

a proper rebuild by Yzerman will require using the cap room to speed up the stocking of the system, rebuild timeline 3-5 years.

This would permit sufficient time to stock the system with prospects, begin to develop them, and roll them into the NHL.

Abdelkader and Ladd will be nuissance contracts, but the freeing of the room from Nielsen, Loui, Helm, Filpulla, Nemeth should permit for bridging of future contracts and sufficient cap room beyond the flat cap era.

yes, taking those contracts suck, but having 12 picks in the first 2 rounds over the next 3 years will help stock the depleted system the 20 year cup run emptied.

Mantha gets 1-2M more
Bertuzzi gets 1-1.5M more

Remove the 3rd and add in a prospect from van

Ladd has 73 years left and will cost a first + 2nd + prospect

No thanks Benning already said that he's not adding sweeteners to move Loui Eriksson's contract. And Ladd no thank you either. The odds of either Eriksson or Ladd playing full time in Detroit is zero.

Mantha maybe around $6M, and Bertuzzi I think is fine, he's not a big producer, and I don't think he has too much more to his game than what everyone's seen.

Vancouver has no real prospects that would be available, and I don't see them moving a roster player, considering Detroit is literally lacking at every position and 2021 is supposedly deep at Goaltending and Defense, two positions that could take 2-5 years to develop properly.

So the purpose was, stack your roster with depth and let them develop internally as opposed to trading for pieces.

I think the ladd trade is fine, you're giving up a nothing pick in exchange for a first and 3rd, which realistically can be bought out in a year or two to minimize the impact, but Detroit should be cap floor team for the next 2-3 seasons anyways.

Bertuzzi is playing top 3 and is very valuable to the wings he's getting 5*5

Vancouver has dipietro, woo, rathborne. We would take any of those with the pick

Ladd is going to add. It's ladd + 1st + 2nd(or aho) + prospect

We aren't taking these guys otherwise sorry

The problem with the Ladd trade is you can't buyout Ladd and save anything in the near term (which is why NYI wants to move him in the first place). The contract is full of signing bonuses, and you get no break from those. Anyone that is going to take on Ladd is going to want the moon and stars to do so, because you are taking on all the risk.

Bertuzzi will easily break the $5mm/year mark, and probably beat his comparison (which is Tom Wilson). Wilson is a .36ppg player making 5.166mm/year. Bertuzzi is a .6PPG player. The market says he should be making around 5.25x5 years, which I suspect is what he will get. If he went to arbitration, Bertuzzi's floor would be $5mm/year (based on comparables) for a 1 year deal.

I'd prefer to just bury Ladd in the minors and hope he retires or gets put on LTIR than give up a first round pick

What’s Benning going to say publicly, “hey we’ll give teams whatever they ask for to trade Eriksson” ????
Maybe it’s true, Vancouver makes other more minor cap moves or is forced to let some guys walk into UFA and leave, but just because a GM publicly says something like that I’m not willing to take it as gospel when they are clearly just posturing through the media

100% Agreed. He’ll get bored and retire eventually. If not, his contract ends in 3 years, which would be a good contract length for a Barzal bridge deal anyways. In the meantime, we can trade Leddy and Komarov, bury Boychuk and Hickey and if we absolutely have to, buy out Clutterbuck. The Isles have better options than giving up half their prospect system. Now, if Detroit is looking to get assets for taking on bad contracts, I’d bet the Isles would give up a similar package offered here for taking Boychuk’s contract. If the Isles can move Komarov, Leddy AND Boychuk, they can not only sign the RFAs, they can start looking at making additions and building on last year’s run.

he's due $12M ... I don't think he "gets bored and retires"... he's going to collect every penny of that.

did you just compare Wilson and Bertuzzi as comparables?.....

not at all the same type of player, stats are similar, but impact on the ice is totally different, which is what Wilson was really paid for.

Stats aren't even CLOSE to similar. Wilson is on the ice with one of the top goal scorers in the league (79% of his EV starts is with Ovi) and isn't even scoring at 2nd pairing defenseman rate. No one pays for fighters anymore.

Then in that case, he’ll get injured at some point in the next three years and get LTIRed maybe it doesn’t happen now, but it will eventually.

Look how little Detroit gave up to move Datsyuk's contract. They just moved down a few spots in the draft.

Detroit had ZERO salary because he wasn't reporting.... there was no financial obligation due.

Arizona took him for nothing to get to the cap floor, and Detroit moved it because they couldn't LTIR it.

EDIT: which just adds to the argument that BOTH teams have to benefit.... in the case of taking dead cap because you have room during a rebuild, Detroit has to benefit in doing so.
