Thought he would get 7+ Million regardless of term. Adjusted for cap, he actually took less than his previous contract. Might be a little dicey in the last 2 years but I think it's a good deal.
I guess everyone saying Petro shouldn’t get 7 years should know that Petry will also be signed till 37.
Difference is Petry got 6.25 and Pietragelo will get 9+. Petry can become a #4 and still be worth his contract. Pietrangelo has to be a #1 to be worth his.
Best years of Petry were when he was +30 years old. He's like wine, better with age. Bouwmeester was reliable even if old, I think Petry has the same qualities that can help him stay reliable
Even if it seems risky, the extra year doesn't scare me that much. The AAV is low for the quality he'll bring in 21 & 22
Good signing, but Montreal is spending a lot of money on some older defensemen. We'll see if this comes back to haunt them when their younger prospects and players need real contracts

Horrible deal. We might as well say bye to one KK, Suzuki, Romanov,Poehling, or Primeau when their ELC runs out.
Way to over value prospects. Only KK and Suzuki are poised to get decent bucks at the end of their ELC. Poehling is a bubble player and Primeau has many years behind Carey before we see if he’s an NHL goaltender.
If the Habs end up in cap hell, it won’t be because they signed Jeff Petry for fair value.
AAV is fine but the term worries me due to his age. His 100% worth that much right now but who knows if he will still be worth that much a year or two into his deal

Whoever signs AP is signing a long term deal to keep the AAV low for the present. A team like toronto won’t care if he’s a cap dump at 35 or 36 I’d they sign him and win a cup when he’s 30-33.
