Great skater with no history of serious injuries... I see no problem with this.

He's still got 3 strong seasons in him and if he's bad for the 4th (which I doubt he will) then it will only be one bad year.

$$ Hungry? Unfortunately our GM isnt a ***** and gives players whatever they want.

true but there is a salary cap after all so i think they could be the next leafs unless they just cut their losses and fire MB rn. but i see what u mean

There are currently no salary concerns. Also our cap space is spread out along the 3 main positions (Forward/Defense/Goaltending) and we can roll all 4 lines.

it is so disproportionate tho. you can't tell me spending 14.8 mill on 2 tendys is ideal. you also cant tell me spending 14 mill on a top pair is a good idea either. however we got some good deals on forwards

14.8 Million for a single season. That's not long term so it doesn't really matter.

We spend about 10 Million on our top pair considering its Chiarot-Weber. Petry is a 2nd pairing defender.

we also could have spent our money better and get better players at the same dollar value. However I do get the premise

Money better on who? Only bad contract we have is Price but that's because he was coming off of a MVP season and was going to get paid whatever he wanted.

EDIT: Also we have Alzner but he's buried in the minors so who cares

This deal has some real risk associated with it, and I am not sure it was the right way to maximize Petry's value based on where Montreal is, however it seems about fair for Petry, he's been a top pair level D for a good amount of time. He is very underrated, and he likely is a very good value for a year or two, and probably a little overpaid later on.

What could tip this further into being a good deal, would be if Petry is paid out most of his money by the beginning of year 3, making it a $6.25M cap hit, but say a $4M or less actually owed. That would make it a lot less risky overall.

I don't love the direction Montreal is taking, I think Bergevin is really overrating his current squad based on a 5 game play in series, but I don't hate this deal by itself.

ik but still 15 mill for 2 tendys aint ideal. and Petry is thier 2nd best dman so my bad I mean their top 2 dman. so that +chiarot really is way too much for a top pair, solid, and bottom pair dman.

In his last year he is paid 3 Million in actual cash after his signing bonus which would make it a good tradable piece to a team trying to reach the floor

14 Million really isn't a whole lot for your top 2 defensemen if they are both quality. If Edmundson helps solidify the top 4, its a very good core.

I agree. I do think Price deserved his $ but go look at my armchair GM mode and that will show you what I would think is ideal and if you knew anything about hockey you would agree.

Hell yes. A year longer than I expected, but a much lower AAV. Great deal.

Edmundson was a top 4 defensemen on St.Louis when they won a cup and he simply didn't fit into Carolina's system. Give him a chance before saying he's bad.

Chiarot proved last year that he's a quality defensemen. At worst he's a #4 guy and he's super consistant. He's easily worth that contract so far.

it honestly looks good but we don't know the situation for any of the teams. Also I don't see Weise or Folin coming back

Edmundson had a bad year he could bounce back but I aint convinced enough to say he is a top 4 guy. Chiarot is but I think he is going to regress from this point on.

I agree I just want Weise for Grit purposes and I want Folin just as a minor league filler

Considering there is no clause and this AAV, I think it is a good move by MB. It is also making Petry a prime candidate for Seattle if his performance do not meet the expectations.

What I really don't like is that our top-2 D are getting old... really old frown
