Should I add retention on Voracek for the MTL deal?

Explanation for the top 9:
you've got 3 tandems (Kane/Couture, Meier/Hertl and Strome/Labanc) completed by middle six/bottom six players. Still, it gives SJ 3 lines that can score regularly.

Yeah, I get that, since Vlasic's got 6 years left.

What if SJ added their own 2020 2nd as well as a 2021 3rd? Or even the 2020 pick and a 2022 2nd?

Chicago says no. Seabrook has played 1100 games with them. He’s a leader in the locker room. His contract sucks and I think Hawks are content with letting him play bottom pairing minutes as he ages. I also think Hawks don’t give up on Strome yet. Dach is the real deal but he’s also still 19 and has only played 60 games. Don’t want to give up on Strome too soon. Giving him up now likely regresses the offense until Dach starts to emerge.

Only benefit of getting Vlasic is he’ll be close to his nephew Alec Vlasic and help groom him for the next few years.

- If you're adding a 4th in the Voracek trade I really don't think you have to retain on Burns, but I like the trade itself.

- And then flipping Voracek I really like as well. Especially to montreal. He seems like the kind of player they could use. Getting Armia back is great and Poehling and Ylonen would be good too. A pick coming back as well would be nice as well though. But I guess I'm just getting nitpicky

- I'd stay away from that Chigago trade though. I definitely think the Hawks ask for way more than that and as much as people love to hate on Vlasic, he's still more than serviceable and probably could somewhat live up to his contract again if he's paired with the right partner. So I'd actually keep him in this instance.

I hate the Voracek for Burns idea that is common on this site. But retaining 1 mil of Burns contract, makes me like it more for sure. In all honesty, if MTL is willing to do that deal, which not sure if they would be, Philly would rather have that deal than bring in Burns. Burns and Provy would be fun to watch, but the point of getting rid of Voracek is to create cap space as we have a couple big offseasons coming up.

For the record, I'm a huge Burns fan as a player. One of my favorite non-flyers, but that cap hit for an extra year of contract length, and he's a few years older than Voracek is some of the reasonings I don't prefer the trade.

Picks don’t change it. Hawks wouldn’t swap Sean’s for classic 1 for 1, so we aernt sending strome as well

I'll take my chances with 4 years of Seabs deal all day long over 6 years of Vlasic at an even higher cap hit/rate. Sure as hell not giving away Strome for the privledge

I think it’s a fair trade but I wouldn’t make it because what’s fair now might not be fair in a couple years.

Well, for a start you'd have to get Vlasic's buy-in and I doubt very much that you'd get that, even if it would possibly mean playing with his cousin at some point :P

Also, I'll pass on Strome. The only time he's ever played particularly well has been with various members of the Erie Otters and I don't think we have any of their alumni in our organization. (You think I'm joking. I am absolutely not joking, at all.)
