Ottawa can just trade for someone that’s on LTIR, rather than giving up a pick for a player that wouldn’t even make their roster.

Edit: And since the contract’s insured, Melnyk doesn’t need to pay anything.

Teams don't have to do Ottawa any favors. They'll hit the floor easy enough. If that Carolina 1st comes into play, among other prospects, they'll talk...

Why would we do that. We don't actually need to get rid of his contract. He has proven to be a good mentor in the minors for our D prospects. Ottawa is pretty much a minor league team for the next couple years. Alzner carries a 4.6M hit but only cost 3m in actual money this year and 3.5 next year. He can fill a spot and be a mentor to the kids. And there are a lot of kids on the team . Montreal would actually be doing you a favor.....

I wouldn’t do that. Mtl will be fine to carry out his contract and you’re right he helps the kids in Laval. I’m a Habs fan but if they were to try and get rid of his contract it won’t be them getting picks they will have to pay to move him
