A lot. It cost toronto a first to dump 6 mil and that was before a flat cap

Just wait for the expansion draft, either him or Ghost will be picked by them and I'm sure a trade can be made for Seattle to take both of them. If I'm Seattle I'd take both Ghost and JVR in a heart beat. JVR has 1 season(this season) in recent history where he did not put up 30 goals(27 the year before is close enough) He is still a 20 goal scorer and can get back to where he was.

but why would SEA take JVR without comp? (in the draft i mean but adding 12.5 in payroll on 2 overpaid guys right away would cost ALOT)

Wouldn't cost a 1st....plenty of teams would likely still view him as at least a $4-5 million winger...so you'd only be paying for the difference...not the full salary.

Guessing a 3rd with a $1 million retained

Problem is Giroux, Lindblom and now Farabee are all better LW options in Flyers top 9 then JVR who is still useful, but obviously doesn't fit in that well in that system.

Maybe pre-Pandemic. Certainly not when maybe half the league has to shed payroll.

If JVR made 6M a year nobody would be calling him a Cap Dump...

At least with JVR, worst case scenario, you're getting 20 goals a season for 3 years. Best case, he gets more time and isn't over shadowed by 3 other top 6 LWs like in Philly and goes back to scoring 30 goals.

With Ghost, it is more risky, but if he can get back to how he used to be with a new team and scenery it could be a huge win for Seattle

I share this view completely....value of cap space is highly undervalued.

But he is not dead weight. Teams would still want him.

I said $1 million retention and a 3rd to move him. So maybe its $2 million and 2nd to move him more quickly.

Yeah, I think he'd still be a useful player in the right spot, he just needs an almost perfect fit now.

$2M retained likely gets the ball rolling.

If he was a free agent...I don't think he'd have a problem getting $5 million x 3 years.

But who knows....we are likely to see some *really* expensive cap moves in next few weeks. The Marleau / Backes deals will look like nothing.

Yeah, or teams will be forced to live with their mistakes. NYI for example may be stuck with Boychuk.

The only other problem with JVR was those healthy scratches in playoffs, I'm thinking that will be pretty fresh in most GMs memories.

JVR to Toronto? Why? Maple Leafs have no cap space for their own UFA's/RFA's. Moreover they have no trade assets that would help Philadelphia.

The facts are:
- JVR will have a hard time to find spot in the Flyers roster
- Flyers will have to pay to move him

So why don't keep him for 1 more year and then pay Seattle to take him in expansion draft?
