Not on board with moving Nylander.
Rather move Marner.

Neither is realistic.

Kuemper I feel is much better choice over others.
Who do you want? Most people just wanna leave goaltending issue till next season, but options then will be worse IMO.

Hampus Lindholm from Anaheim, I feel he is good defensive guy that i like.
Doubt Ducks move him though.

I'm not anymore either!!! That's right I said don't move Nylander or Marner!!!! Lol i know I was on that train for a while but got off lol.

He is a great choice but he's going to cost alot and unless we move someone like Willy or MarMar we won't be able to afford his next contract with a flat cap. We could sign someone like Markstrom or Kabudin or whoever on FA and save the assets. That's just my opinion tho. I'm with ya on not leaving it till next year.

Hampus is great but yeah, I can't see Anaheim doing that. Although I don't pretend to have any inside info or anything. I think the best person to ask would be @OldNYIfan because he likes both teams and always gives a unbiased opinion.

I feel this is what everyone mostly says RE goaltending and Rielly.
It is time to think real hard about these decisions

I hate all these ACGM's going for Pietrangelo and having no cap space and not realizing that we already have our own problems to deal with and adding Alex would only make it harder to figure out. Too many thinking of the short term and not the bigger picture. Also, if the reason for bringing in Petro is to give Mo a partner what's the point when we won't be able to keep Rielly after 2 years?

I dont like that return of Andersen.
Rather take 2 second rounders for him and maybe a prospect too.

What did you think of the Kapanen trade?

I'd take the 19thOA and Bennett (even if he is only here for a year). We could flip Ritich if Dubas wanted too but I don't think we would get a better return than that for him. You would rather have 2 seconds than a mid 1st and a kerfoot replacement for a year?

I think the Kapanen deal was highway robbery by Dubas and am glad he made that trade. But Kapanen gone is also part of the reason I wouldn't move Nylander. Marner won't bring back the same value because he doesn't provide as much bang for your buck IMO.

I can't see Lindholm as the solution to your problem because they've never even tried him at RD (unlike Cam Fowler, who has had mixed results there).

I saw a trade earlier today by a Leafs "fan" which was awful for Toronto but suggested the following to me: Marner and Liljegren for Rakell, Manson and the Boston first. (Of course, I'd much rather give you the 2021 first, but I'm trying to be honest.)

@Trickster and I were talking about moving Rielly out because we won't be able to afford him. He suggested he'd like to trade him for Hampus which I think is a great player just not sure your Ducks would want to pay him what he wants in 2 years but truth be told I have no idea which is why I wanted your opinion.

You're right that would be a bad trade for us. I've had a few Ducks fans tell me Rakell who I've always liked isn't the same player he once was not sure how true that is but if so we probably wouldn't resign him. And I have no idea why leaf fans keep beating the Manson to the leafs horse with a stick. He isn't what we need and you guys need him more it doesn't make sense for either side. Personally, the players on the ducks I would want is Gibson which isn't happening and Jones again ain't happening unless we give up Lilly which doesn't make sense for us. Some people are just homers lol

Hah!! You think THAT trade is bad? That's the version I created trying to make the original idea close to fair. The original postulation was Marner, Kerfoot and Liljegren for Rakell and Manson. Period.

100% we need to add grit but we also need it to come from within and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I also agree on your goaltending take. It doesn't make sense to extend a goalie on the wrong side of 30 who has had back and groin injuries in the past plus such a heavy workload. To me it's a recipe for disaster. That being said, I would look to trade Andersen this offseason and sign a FA. Not sure if it's true but I heard a rumour I believe it was Lebrun but don't quote me who said CGY offered Dubas their 1st+Bennett+ Ritich and Dubas said no because he wasn't sold on a Ritich/Campbell tandem?!?... I would have taken that deal all day long.

I know trading Rielly won't make us better but he has 2 yearz left at a very affordable contract making him extremely valuable to other teams and we likely can't afford his next contract so I would rather be proactive and at least explore what we could get for him rather than letting him walk for nothing as we've already done that too many times. I know Sandin needs to take another step forward but maybe we get a cheaper LHD come back as part of the package or sign someone through FA on the short term or just let Muzzin/Dermott/Sandin take the reigns and see how they do seems how we won't be competing for a cup anytime soon anyways.

Rittich: I think he has mostly proven that he's a decent NHL backup but not a great starting goalie in this league. He was NOT able roll off 7-8 wins during the season behind what I would consider is a better defense core than Toronto's. He would be horrendous IMO behind the Leafs D core.
So really... not a good option IMO.

As far as trading Rielly goes, look I'm not against trading him but the Leafs window to win is between now and the end of Matthews' contract. I just don't see how this team and organization moves forward having success by trading Rielly. Dermott and Sandin are not at the level where the Leafs need them to be. Not saying they won't get there but it's not happening overnight.

There's just no sexy move to be made that's instantly going to make this D core improved big time (unless Dubas changes his mind on Marner/Nylander and signs Pietrangelo). The simple move is to sign a combination of DeMelo, Gudas, Braun, or other under-the-radar D man to upgrade the right side.

As soon as you trade Rielly, you will be looking for a D who can eat up ice time like he does.

I'd be okay with that, obviously no one is give a 2nd rounder for Holl though.

I doubt Dermott will land you 2nd also......from some other Thread where TML trade assets were over-evaluated ( Post #18 ):
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/366142

Pietrangelo :
as much as I am in doubts about it and would go for 2 middle range complementaries for Rielly and Muzzin....but i think Dubarellis plan is Pietrangelo.... If Kapanen trade wasnt something to heal his ego cause all the flak he got from losing 2020 1st with Marleau, then i think Dubarelli is signaling hes on the way to make something larger...exactly what Pietrangelo is...especially with all the names that are coming out being on the block too ( which is complete 3rd Line depth )
Hes nerd, he wants to show his old schoolmates how wrong they were and i think Pietrangelo is his way of ALL IN......imagine bringing a parade to Toronto after 1967.....he would get a statue next to WW2 victory mausoleum ( i dont know if that even exist in CAN so probably just bad reference )

Goalies :
I was for re-signing Andersen all the way for 4 x 6,5M, but with Covid situation that wont be doable....so play him this Season ( cause Goalies are much more valuable to current Teams then they are to others in giving up trading assets ) and go for Allen 5 x 5 next year in FA

Don't understand the hostility but yes, I think it is bad and I'll explain why. For a while I was all for moving one of Marner or Nylander (mostly Nylander because I felt it was a better bang for your buck contract and you gotta give to get) for a top-pairing defenceman however, we just moved Kapanen who would have stepped into their role. I realize Anaheim would be sending us Rakell but that just adds to our problem we were talking about. We are already going to have trouble extending Rielly in two years let alone Rakell & Manson (I realize we'd be saving money by moving Marner out but signing those three players in the same offseason as UFA's would be damn near impossible IMO and the Ducks can't afford him especially if Kessler comes back like alot are saying), or we let them walk for nothing which I'd be fine with if we were in a position to take two serious runs at a cup but we aren't, or at least as of right now our core hasn't shown that on a consistent basis. Look at the Raptors beating the Golden State Warriors, they played for each other and had the we're going to war die for your brother sitting next to you mind mentality that's why we won IMO. Yes we had Kawhi and I'm not downplaying his contributions but he didn't win it alone and the Leafs don't have that at least not yet.

I wasn't trying to be insulting if that's how you took my response I sincerely apologize that was never my intention. I was merely trying to give my honest opinion the way things currently stand for our team. Our fan base has alot of homers who post alot of bad trades usually in our team's favour (not saying I'm perfect by any means) and honestly, their trade is downright terrible for us because like I said to many leaf fans are looking at the here and now and not thinking about the bigger picture and how certain trades will affect us down the road. Same goes for signing Pietrangelo it would help us next year but after that it would only make things that much more difficult. How would these leaf fans feel if we lose Rielly or Nylander in 2 years because we gave petro a huge contact especially down the road in 3-4 years when he is no longer in his prime?

Again, my point/comment was never meant to insult you I was merely trying to look at the bigger picture. I'm going to post an ACGM shortly of what I think the leafs should do you may feel free to rip in to me there if you'd like.

I'm not saying you're wrong about Ritich but the draw for me was the 19thOA and Bennett. Dubas could flip Ritich hell, attach a 7th and send him to a team for a 6th then sign a goalie on the FA market.

I love Rielly too, just like every other leafs fan but with a flat cap and him already taking a team-friendly contract last time plus this being his last chance to cash in big and what he'd be able to command on the open market I think he's going to cost more than alot of people think. I could be wrong and I hope I am because I'll gladly eat crow if he signs for a reasonable amount but I'm not banking on it.

I realize we would be downgrading our D by moving him out, I just want our FO to be proactive this time around instead of letting another player walk for nothing when we could have gotten a nice return. I guess that's my point if he's gone regardless wouldn't you rather gain assets for him instead of nothing?

I also agree about going after the secondary D FA's rather than a big fish. I'm going to post an ACGM in a bit, I'll tag you in it.
