not when his bonus is paid. then he only costs 1.5 in actual salary which is really good for teams that need to cut costs and still roster a serviceable dman. Cap is only a concern for teams that have gotten the green light from ownership to spend up to that amount. From what I read, about a third of teams in the league are looking to cut salary across the board so Russel is more of an asset to teams with a smaller budget. Not an asset to a cap driven team like the avs but NJ, Florida or Ottawa would love to pay a price for a body that costs as much as russel does

Colorado is not one of those teams.. calvert has way more value to the avs then another dman

He’s bad at hockey it’s that simple
avs are a good team with a smart analytics based mgmt group that have all the funds to spend to the cap whenever they see fit

Russell is a awful slow shot blocking DMan that offers no value and Calvert is better than Khaira. In no way do the Avs consider this trade. If you want the Avs to dowgrade forwards and take on Russell, oilers have to give up actual value
