Severson and Palmieri trades

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2020
Published: Sep. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NJD gets a lot of offers for Severson and Palmieiri.

I have offered a few examples of trades I've see that I would fit from NJD perspective.

Some of these are ambitious or lopsided and some too low of a return - wanted to show types of players/prospects NJD would want to acquire. (as opposed to the frequently seen packages of a few overpaid 4th liners and some late picks)

NJD needs:
- Young dmen
- Right-shot forwards/prospects
- possible goalie prospect

Cap dumps generally cost (per year)
- $5-6 million - 1st round pick
- $3-4 million - 2nd round pick
- $1-2 million - 3rd round pick
- <$1 million - late round pick

Hope that helps.

If you're looking for a 1st rounder outta him, you might be lucky to get just the pick. Wouldn't get a prospect in there. Severson is not good enough in his own end to get both. Sandin and a 1st gets closer to Parayko than Severson. What you're forgetting is that Pittsburgh's desperate to win before their window closes. That's why they slightly overpaid for Kapanen. Toronto's window isn't as small as Pittsburgh so they don't have to overspend for a mediocre upgrade. There's plenty of UFA options out there that would be a better upgrade for what Toronto needs and wouldn't cost any assets to give up. Pietrangelo, Tanev, Demelo, Gudas, etc are all better fits and don't cost any ridiculous assets to get.

I disagree. I think the Leafs window is closing and having the option to retain on Severson should get you more than what Kapanen got. I would say something along the lines of 15th and Liljegren.
And they are not going to cost you any assets because they are free agents. But I still think financially the leafs will struggle Signing those guys for fair contracts.
When people are saying that Not many teams Are going after defenceman because of the cap situation but yet a team like the leafs who have arguably the worst cap position in the league are going out for defenceman doesn’t that mean that other teams can possibly go after them.
There is already a report that Pittsburgh wants to sign Tanev.

Leafs core is all under 26 except Tavares and arguably Muzzin.. they have at least 5-6 years of a window left. Pittsburgh's is down to 2-3 at most. Leafs are fine. Sign a free agent like Tanev or Demelo. Fits the teams needs better and doesn't cost the young assets that will be needed to help the cap situation. There's no interest in Severson if the price has the 15th pick or Sandin/Liljegren in it. Rather pay that price plus a little more for a guy like Parayko or Ekblad who are far and away better than Severson.

far and away better. And far and away wanting more value. Then you have to worry about signing Reilly in a couple years. You want Parayko it’ll be a severe overpayment. Nylander 15th and another decent asset.
And the window has absolutely nothing to do with the age of the core. It all has to do with the cap. And the leafs have screwed themselves by putting all their eggs up front.

Instead of trading for Palmieri the Bruins will just sign a UFA winger that will our produce him while not giving up an asset.

There's 2 options in FA, Hall and Hoffman both will cost 7+ million

I'll worry about Rielly in 2 years time, not all that concerned with Rielly at this time - if the window is truely"closing" Leafs should be going all in the next 2 seasons and not worry about Rielly and his next contract

Jeez. I thought cap friendly was cool site. Severson for Thomas? Sandin and 15th overall for Severson? Lol I thought these bad trades were the leaf fans job

These are all absurdly lopsided

Guys....read the intro. I pointed out that many of these were lopsided. I was trying to point out the "type of trade" NJD wants to do. Perhaps I did not articulate myself clearly.

.....Too many like this: overpaid 6th d-man + 4th line rental + AHLer + cap dump + 3rd round pick + 5th round pick
.....Too few like this: prospect + pick

Quoting: G0_Leafs_GO
Maybe for 15 OA and a mid-tier prospect like Kokkonen/Abramov

Maybe - but it is certainly the type of trade that would interest a rebuilding club more than what usually gets offered

Quoting: Ryminister_27
& Toronto laughs at you. You wouldn't get either prospect plus the 15th overall for Severson. If the pick is a necessity, you're looking at a lower tier prospect cause it's a deep draft this year. Severson isn't worth 2 top prospects.

The 15th overall and prospect is fine from TOR...doesn't have to be Sandin. It just can't be Holl, Dermott, Engvall, and a bunch of Marlies.

Quoting: ecupirate07
Bean and Nino for Palmieri, sure
Bean, Nino, and a first for Palmieri and a 3rd, no way.

Bean, Nino + 1st for Palms is a trade that CAR fans have agreed to a number of times on here....so I used that from memory. Make it next years pick....or 2nd and 2022 3rd...whatever, my point is NJD will be more interested in getting Bean....or whatever young player they can.

What is the going price on Parayko?
I have seen Robertson/Liljegren/2020 1st...Sandin/Robertson/2020 1st.
If that is worth it, TML should do it.

And for what its worth, Severson is better offensively than Parayko. Hynes system really limited his play in offensive situations. Take power play, they tried for half the season to run 1-3-1 with single d-man as QB. Vatanen and Subban were the "1". It didn't go well. When Hynes was fired they went back to two d-man pinching down and Severson was included. He had 26 points in 43 games after Hynes was let go.

His defense is above average in transition....its down near the crease where he and other NJD d-man had issues. (This was true for all NJD d-men except Andy Greene and surprisingly at times Will Butcher...and maybe Mueller if he played).

Pens decline. GMJR said Petterson is off limits and they wouldn’t trade 3 LHD after just acquiring a 73637366th one lol.
Maybe POJ, JJ, and a 2nd or 3rd or a later pick and Simon.

I didn't see that...seems like a strange box to paint yourself into....with 5+ LHD on roster.

POJ, JJ, picks would likely be of interest to NJD.

Riikola can play the right side too. But yeah we have 5 LHD but losing 3 would put us down to 2 lol.
