Depends on how he performs, I don't think he touches $11M unless he magically turns into a 100 point player, which I'd be extremely happy with. I think if he's a 70 point C then $8-9M isn't too far off. We are fine cap-wise as long as Guerin doesn't sign a Zuccarello. We have a ton of money coming off the books in the next few years with Dubnyk, Rask, Johansson, Pateryn, Bjugstad, maybe even Foligno if he wants too much money. I'm not worried about our cap. If Parise or Suter retire early we can just put them on LTIR like the Leafs did with Horton and the Coyotes did with Hossa.

I’m gonna run some salary numbers, I have a fancy spreadsheet, and see what it looks like. I also don’t hate Monahan, I’m just not sold that it’s the best thing long term for us. But your point about the draft next year is a good one, depending where those picks fall we might be able to use them to get that number one. Love death spirals like that.

Well if he gets you 35 goals and 70 points I'm fine with him being meh in his own zone. Maybe he'd be closer to the $8M mark. He's shown he's capable of putting up 80 points so I don't think it's that egregious.

I think this is why I’m ok going after Domi. He sucks in his own zone too but the potential is there and the cost will be less in money and assets to get him.

But yes, a center that can score 70 points is worth trading Dumba.

The reason I hate Domi is because he turns the puck over constantly. He's a very skilled player but as soon as he gains the zone he looks to pass between 3 players to his teammate which almost never works out, the other team picks off the pass and they get an odd-man rush. Every game I watched (I think it was about 10-15) Domi gave the other team a grade-A scoring chance at least once, and often a couple times by doing that. Domi has also been a career 40 point guy with one 70 point season, I think that season was the exception and not the rule. I don't want anything to do with him.

Monahan is a career 60 point guy with an 80 point season, but he's scored multiple 30 goal seasons and he doesn't make stupid decisions with the puck like Domi does. That's why I like him way more and I'm willing to live with his poor defensive play since he takes care of the puck better (at least from what I've seen so far)

I agree...as long as he consistently puts up 70 points.

Well we'd have 2-3 years of data to figure that out!

Bennett and 19th would be an awful idea for the Wild. If we can't get Monahan, I'd imagine we just keep Dumba. Honestly there's no reason for us to force a trade. Guerin was on a podcast at The Athletic and said as much, he's happy keeping Dumba.

Also, I could see us protecting 8 skaters rather than 7, 3, 1.

Yep! I mentioned that in another comment, but I have no issue doing that and losing one of Kunin/Donato/Greenway. Otherwise we can trade them for picks/expansion exempt prospects.
