Both of these 2 have been compared and I've seen many arguments from both Habs and Leafs fans on who's better.
Right now, I think Sandin is better (slightly) and long term I think Sandin will be a top pair d-man who can get 45-55 points, while Romanov will be a 2nd pair d-man that can get you 30 points, with a solid defensive game. This is my opinion though.
Let me know what you think!
Sandin imo. But maybe not since Romanov will have a big role with montreal fast whereas sandin will be behind Reilly and muzzin. Still think sandin will be the better player though
Right now I'd say Romanov, he has more playing time in a tougher League (KHL). I think Sandin has a higher ceiling but given the Leafs current development plan with him he may never reach it.
Right now romanov is better, long term who knows. Romanov has played on the best team in the khl for 2 years now where as sandin has not been able to make the leafs. I like sandin alot but romanov is clearly further ahead developmentwise
Sandin. Has a higher ceiling and will be more than just a defensive dman. His 2-way game is only gonna get better and while he wont have that physical presence romonov has his ability to contribute at both ends just makes him more valuble.
Also coming from the KHL romonov may not adapt well to the NHL system. Just got to wait and see. But still his defensive plays and physical presence should allow him to be on the third pair for montreal next season

I don’t know where everyone is getting all of this “Romanov is a defensive defenseman” stuff. He’s great offensively. As good as he is defensively, I’d say he’s even better offensively. He’s a great passer and has a wonderful shot.
They’re both good 2-way defensemen. It’ll be fun to watch both of them play in the coming years.
