COL trade makes zero sense for them to do. Though I did see a post today that COL was looking at Fast.

This is about as good as it gets for the Leafs when trading Kerfoot. They shed salary, pick up a draft pick, and a younger bigger replacement.
Rangers pick up a solid 3C potential 2C fill in, who has some edge to his game but is defensively responsible.

Win for both teams

I'd say it makes some sense. They have an embarrassment of riches on the defensive end. And Cole is most expendable because he's a pending UFA. They retain a little salary and get back some decent assets and then run Graves-Makar Girard-Johnson Zadorov-Timmins. I guess you could argue Rangers need to add a little bit because of the retention but I'd say this deal benefits both sides: Rangers get a defensively responsible vet to balance out all the youth and COL clears the logjam, gets a little cap relief, and some solid futures.

1. They don’t need cap relief.
2. You mean the log jam where the Avs were playing Connauton regularly in the last 4 games of the playoffs?
3. Cole’s ability to play left or right slide up in a pinch and to kill penalties is invaluable to contender.
4. If Byram and or Timmins is ready to take a full time role and they haven’t moved Zadorov or Graves they can afford to sit Cole in the press box.
5. Andersson is a reclamation bottom 6 guy right now where the Avs have Compher, Donskoi, Calvert, PEB, Kaut, LOC, Bowers, RFA’s Nichushkin and Jost.
Like I said the trade doesn’t make any sense for COL.

1. Fair enough but it’s 2.25 million they can allocate elsewhere
2. Don’t be dramatic, Connauton only played because of injuries. Makar, Graves, Johnson, Girard, Cole, Zadorov, Timmons, Byram is definitely a logjam. They could potentially run out 4 excellent NHL d pairings if they wanted to.
3. They have that in Zadorov no? Plays both sides, big strong body to clear the crease on the PK. And he’s an RFA so he’s under team control.
4. In that scenario, why have him sit when you can get assets something for him?
5. Don’t think Andersson plays in the NHL in 20-21. Likely will stay in Sweden for the year and comes back after that. He could be an intriguing option to replace someone like Bellemare or Calvert in the bottom 6.

If you don’t like the trade that’s fine but to say it’s doesn’t make ANY sense is so wrong. It makes a lot of sense depending on how the Avalanche want to add to their roster...

1. They don’t 2.25M elsewhere, not to eat $2M for pick that maybe turns into an NHL player in 4 years, and a guy who in your own words is going to play in Sweden. He is far more valuable than the extra cap space.
2. Don’t be dramatic? The longer the start of the season is pushed back the less likely it is Byram plays in the NHL this year. Graves and Z are RFA’s that still have to be signed. Timmins is a rookie too. Quality veteran depth is what makes sense, and if Byram does play in the NHL Cole is the perfect partner as the veteran stay home mentor.
3. Zadorov doesn’t play both sides. And as much as I love Z the weakest part of his game imo is the pk (but I have a major issue with Avs pk plan). He was the 4th d on the pk behind Johnson, Graves and Cole.
4. Why have him sit? See the Connauton comment before. Or if Byram and Timmins struggle.
5. Except they have Bowers, Kaut and LOC for 21-22, not to mention Newhook, and even possibly Kovalenko.

It makes no sense. A Stanley Cup contender giving up a versatile dman for basically some extra cap space that they don’t need. That’s the whole point. They don’t need cap space so the trade doesn’t make sense.
