The boring but likely result

Description
It seems more and more likely the sharks will not be making any big moves. Adding a forward and goalie in FA seems to be the most likely result

I don’t see the appeal of smith (not saying your wrong or anything)

I’d much rather spend 4 mil elsewhere

Sharks are done IMO, adding stuff only further delays the inevitable: being in the toilet of the league for 1/2 of a decade

Thats an extreme reaction. Id bet you wouldnt have liked someone to say that about the rangers last year or the year before, and look at them now? Great team with a good looking future

I agree with this outlook. Except to add to the boring, you forgot to resign Melker. That would be the cherry on top.

Lol, I was actually happy when we started the rebuild in 2018, because I just knew our window was as done as it gets. What we did is starting a rebuild/retool/youth movement, whatever you wanna call it a year early rather than a year too late.

What GMDW will probably do is relying on MJ as his starter, relying on a 41 year old guy who can barely skate as his 3C, on Noesen, True, Gambrell, Gregor (who's the best of the bunch, ouch), Kellman and others like these for secondary scoring (good luck if injuries happen). He's basically digging his head in the sand which ALWAYS ends badly.

This is your very last offseason to move Burns for something without having to retain like 3 mil of his deal yet Wilson isn't trading him. You need more than one forward yet he'll probably just add one, I could go on.

There is no shame in admitting that your window has closed (ours close in 2016, yours did in 2019), this is actually called maturity and being rational.

Hell, if you guys prove me wrong, I'll be happy, because the Sharks have been one of my favorite teams for some years now (and Couture and Vlasic have always been some of my league favorites) but I wouldn't bet a dollar on you guys.

The only thing that could allow you to be ok in 20-21 in the Pacific being weak, but that's it

I guess we will see, but I disagree mostly.

What is the above is wrong? Like I really don't know what to tell you if you don't see MAJOR issues within the team, the main one being spending 26,5 millions on 3 d-men older than 30.

What I'd do if I were SJ is try to move Burns with a 1,75 mil retention, move Kane with maybe 725K retained, tank in 20-21 and go from there.

Besides Merkley you don't have major prospects, and your present isn't even good enough to contend for the cup, unless a miracle happens (Gambrell turning into a 15 goal scorer and Vlasic returning to form, for instances)

I would move Burns this summer if someone taking him with zero salary retention, otherwise hold pat and let the tank happen naturally (which I don't think will happen TBH).

I can see the whole team rebounding this season. Many people around the team said the room didn't handle losing well last year and expect themselves to be better in 20-21.
How many teams have went from CF to bottom 3 in back to back seasons?

This team will rebound quick, Jones has now had significant rest after starting the highest number of games in league since start of 15-16 season, so I predict a high teens save % for him, we will improve at backup position (hopefully, wait and see whp DW signs in 2 weeks).

Adding a Smith, Leivo, Fast, Ryan at RW will help, as we don't have any good prospects at that position even for a bottom 6 role yet.

In dealing Doug we trust (for 1 more season)

We almost made finals with the same core -Pavelski. If Hertl Couture and Karlsson stay healthy we are a playoff team no doubt. The team was vastly better when the coaching changed, but injuries ruined the season. If the sharks stay healthy and buy into the new system, I think you will be shocked to see they arent so bad

I see what u mean buddy but the fact to the matter is that your offensive depth is just not good enough to make it far into the playoffs.

If one of Hertl/Couture goes down, do you REALLY trust Thornton to play 2C at 41 years old?

That's one of the issues with being attached to a certain player: not being able to see his decline (to be fair, many of us NYR fans have been guilty of that for Hank for the past 1-2 years). Well, same goes for Joe. I agree that his passing abilities are still there and I don't see them ever going away, but his speed makes it pretty much impossible to imagine him as 3C at this point.

Anyway, I'll post something tonight, I'll tag you when I post it
