If Tampa wins, that team is dismantling like Chicago did a decade ago.

Teams will be lining up for the expensive pieces.

Letting Sergachev go through an offer sheet is more attractive to Tampa.

You think so? So a 1, 2, 3 is more attractive than an NHL ready top 4 Dman on an ELC?

100%, kinda reminds me of when they let go of Byfuglien, Leddy, Sharp etc

Small defensemen have never done well in Tampa under the current regime.

yeah, that was a decade ago... when chicago won the cup.... sarcasm

Cirelli, Killorn, and Sergachev will all have new addresses by Christmas.

I expect teams to pay some market value as a bidding war for these pieces (maybe not killorn) will likely happen.

I’d love Branny next to Hedman. Apparently he prefers the right side

this makes no sense... they have a core in place to be competitive, they shouldn't purge their roster for picks.

top-end prospects who are almost NHL ready should be the target.

We have a top end prospect who is going to see playing time on the right side of Hedman next year already. No need for another. LD I believe would actually be preferable.

Seriously, Foote is not ready for top line mins... Brannstrom would be a great fit... and how do you need a LD?..

Hedman-Brannstrom
McDonagh-Cernak
Someone-Foote

Or
Hedman-Bogosian
Brannstrom-Cernak
McDonagh-Foote

2nd and 3rd pair would be playing equal minutes

Top line minutes? I said minutes. The only d-line that's a constant for Tampa is Cernak-McDonagh (usually).
Syracuse is empty on LD prospects, plus losing Sergachev means there's an opening.

If Ottawa wants to sign Sergachev to csick's contract, and if I'm GMing Tampa, I am taking 2 1st, 1 2nd, and 1 3rd rather than a second and an undersized defenseman prospect.

if you lose Sergachev, who cares about Syracuse, you need NHL minutes, not AHL.

31 GP 0-4-4 -9

I'd rather have Luke Schenn.

As for Syracuse, pending anything unprecedented, Tampa is about to have a cup. Selling Sergachev cheap is not a good long-term move. Brannstrom doesn't help the win now narrative either. Better to protect the future.

Brannstrom played well defensively. He didn’t play the PP and wasn’t given the reigns offensively. He’s definitely better than that, plus Ottawa really wasn’t good offensively so it doesn’t help him get pts

exactly, looking at a guy in a bubble can make him look bad.

If he plays top line with Hedman you have a solid development right there, for a high talent.

it's not about selling low, because Brannstrom is definitely not a low end prospect, he was the main piece in the Stone deal.

but it's also about not going out, and hopefully getting a defenseman in a draft (presuming someone is available with that 1st pick worth taking) and hoping they develop into something serviceable.
the draft is a lottery, Brannstrom is a sure thing if handled properly.

"If handled properly"

Well there's the next caveat. Outside of Cernak and Sergachev, Cooper era rookie defenseman have bad records of developing. Trades and waivers have always yielded the most success.

Who?... Dotchin, Koekkoek? they weren't exactly top quality prospects...
