NYR saved huge amount of cap without giving up anything too significant.

I'll say they won the trade.

They gave up something MASSIVELY Significant. A SECOND ROUND PICK! That's big time. I'd take that all day long if I was Detroit. Yzerman SCORES again.

See the Marleau dump from the Leafs costing them a 1st last season. If teams are desperate enough to free up cap space (not necessarily the case for New York here), other teams can very well take advantage of that and demand a higher price than usual.

It’s not exactly off-the-wall to think Staal could’ve costed the Rangers a 1st if they were in any more on a predicament.

Marleau had to be bought out with no cap savings. Slightly different situation with the multi year 35+ contract.

What was suppose to be a late 1st and an early 2nd seems about right for the difference in cap and situation.

Buying a 2nd for $4.2M doesn't make any sense.

I guess DET still see some upside in Staal's game and will play him instead of buting him out.

It also helps Detroit make the salary floor. These owners are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. 4 Million is peanuts for a 2nd round pick to them

Sets the price range of other cap dumps.

NYR was in no Cap troubles and with no "Big names" to re-sign, so i think some other Teams like ARI, STL, VGK, TBL and NYI ( maybe CHI ) will need to offer more.....

Thats more re-build move then Cap shed......

Strome and DeAngelo would make more than NYR had in cap space. And even then, that doesn't fill their roster. So to a fair extent, they did need to clear cap.

About what I thought it would take for Rangers to move Staal, the big bonus on this trade which makes it a win for Winga is what they are giving

Future considerations, likely means low low pick.

I thought that mean't a placeholder for essentially nothing?

If Staal with 1 season left and Cap Hit $5.7M is worth a 2nd. So how much it take to move Seabrook?

Marc Staal signing bonus was payed already, you basically pay him 3.2 for one season or get the chance to buy him out (doubt it but there's a possibility). Seabrook still has 4 years of contract worth near the value of his cap space in real money. There's absolutley no chance you get to move him now

Wow you completely missed what I was saying. I'm a Wing's fan and I was responding to a comment made by a Blackhawks insinuating that the Wings should now take Seabrooks contract.

Ya, it was just to say that Seabrook contract is almost impossible to move. The "you" was generic, It's not about the team you support

Imma say NYR wins the trade. They'll prolly be contenders next year so that'll be a mid second. I was expecting a high second or low first

It is. The condition is something stupid like Yzerman will buy NYR's GM a beer or something

Lol. I wonder if there's actually a stipulation where we get an actual asset.

Doubt it, Usually it would be a conditional pick if that were the case. Could be a player named later but that's very unlikely

I don't think there is a time limit to it. Could be at draft or FA

Both teams win this trade.

NYR get some help with their terrible cap situation so they don't have to do buyouts. Detroit picks up what will likely be a mid 2nd round pick and a 3rd pairing veteran defenceman.
