Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2020
Published: Sep. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montreal gets number one centre. Leafs get a number 2 defensive minded centre (extended), 1st round pick, top prospect and cap space.

I know this won't happen, as Tavares has NMC. But I wanted to see what both teams would look like regardless.

Thoughts?

Too bad he didn’t sign in ny for 12m or San Jose for 13m so he could still have a good contract...

Pass from Detroit, would cost a more to offload Alzner.

Leafs got 15OA and a nice prospect for Kapanen... Domi would have higher value than Kap, in any sane world at least. (Based on 2020... we may not be living in a sane world... haha)

People offloading these contracts like JJ or Alzner without bad money coming back, should be banned!

Looks like NYR just dumped Marc Staal to Detroit along with a 2nd round pick for future considerations (basically the same concept as this trade I posted). This trade happened since I have made this post.... I don't think this is as crazy as you make it sound....

Staal had one year left. Big, big difference though its a good deal for NYR, for sure

Teams only trade top end prospects (such as Caufield) for top players. Tavares would fit that mould. Legit number 1 centre. Montreal considers this trade based on that. They won't trade Caufield for just some random average or good player though.

Only one year versus 2. In this trade I paid an extra 3rd rounder. (I made this trade before seeing the NYR trade) - Not too bad of a guess on my part all things considered....

Well sure if you use that logic and maybe winnipeg agrees. Alot of people think pitts overpaid. I can see winnipeg rather having an established player instead of waiting 2 years for whoever they draft. The only thing is if you're willing to move 10th oa can you do better than domi. Can you get him without giving it.

A year is a massive difference look no further than the value of players traded in the off season with 1 season remaining as opposed to at the deadline as upcoming free agents.

Staal also has been playing decent minutes as opposed to Alzner in the minors or JJ being one of the worst players in the league and signed to 3 more years. It's not close

Probably not. I don't see many scenarios where a 10th overall gets a better player than Domi. If I were Winnipeg (or Buffalo) I would try for 10th overall + for Cirelli or 8th overall for Cirelli in Buffalos case. But Domi would be a good option also.

Winnipeg should try. It would solve some issues for Tampa. Atleast if they win tonight people won't feel as bad about dismantling half the roster

No free agents want to go to WinterPeg. Chevy has but no choice to use marquee players to fill multiple holes. I dont see anyone meeting the Laine price but Ehlers looks like a goner. Cirelli i dont think will be available and his new contract will most likely have a NTC as all the other Bolts got. Gourde to play center looks like the option to be dealt if he waives his NTC but thats the caveat. Tampa is in a very tough spot because of all their NTC. I doubt anyone wants to go to Winnipeg. The Jets will need to look at players without those clauses, Domi plus a defensemen seems like a good target for Ehlers

Since Tavares is already playing for his home town team I think he is a Leaf until he retires.

100%, he’s the captain has a full NMC and took less to come home to Toronto. Moving him would be more damaging to the teams reputation with ufa’s then any return could overcome.

Well gourdes had a good playoffs so if he wants a bigger role than maybe moving on isn't such a bad idea. Especially if he has a cup in his belt this season. Tampa is screwed really. Idk what they do besides just sell a bunch of great rfas foe draft picks
