Likely Detroit will buy him out. Then he can re-sign somewhere for a reasonable contract where he can do some good.

Maybe he signs league minimum with the Rags.

Is that the first cap dump of the offseason?

If Detroit buys him out he can't play for the Rangers for a full year.

I think he's worth more than that, maybe $1.5M to someone looking for experience and leadership.

If the Rangers re-sign him, I'm sure the league will take a look at it. Would be similar to the Orpik situation a couple years ago.

I don’t think that’s true. Caps did it with Orpik. Not that I want it to happen lol

Pretty sure that's not true, unless that's a new rule.

Orpiks went back to the caps after avs bought him out coming in the grubauer deal. I know the nhl did not like how that transpired,

Which is odd as everyone benefited from the situation. LEt teams who have cap room use it as the asset it is. I'd like to see cap room be able to be trade, eg. Hey Detroit we'll send you a couple seconds to take 2,000,000 of fleurys cap hit but we keep him. Wings bet two free picks to rebuild to use cap space they were never going to use(not proposing this just an example)

Other teams didn’t like how it seemed like their circumvented the cap, was legal but apparent teams complained

I get it but lets face it, you need to allow teams ways of acquiring assets outside of the draft(especially with the lottery, which I like as it doesn't reward perennial crappiness), so let the teams use all their assets
