Is the idea that the Bobrovsky contract won't look so bad if there's another bad one in Pietrangelo?

Pietro will find a team to pay him $9....you don't turn down $8 from the Blues just to accept $8 from the Leaf.

But why would Florida do this?
It seems like something they would do but I don't think it's a good idea to spend $19,000,000 on two guys until they're like 37 or 38.

Trade Ekbald to the Leafs for Nylander. Secondary scoring from Nylander would be cheaper than whatever Hoffman demands ($7 (Lee)-$9 (Skinner) probably).
