That’s giving up a lot for laine. I get he’s good but look at the total cost of both trades I have a very hard time thinking he’s worth removing that many pieces

Yeah you probably get to keep dumba, or just skip the dumba thing and put danualt and mete in place of dumba and domi. The phili trade is nuts they'll take it in a heartbeat.

I think Winnipeg makes the most sense for Dumba, but it’ll be a direct trade. Laine probably brings in Domi/Danault, a 1st, and some other pieces. It’s a big player but I don’t think it’s gonna turn into some Matt Duchense deal where the Jets get a future all star team for him.

None of the four pieces start the discussion for Laine.

If Montreal is sending us a package for Dumba I'd hold out for KK or Suzuki, otherwise no dice. Don't see them doing that of course.

Flyers say no if they have to retain. Same amount of term on the contracts. If we retain, it'll be to a team that can absorb the contract, in order to get more cap space. We'd likely attach a pick to it in that scenario. They are barely saving any cap space under this scenario here. Drouin doesn't really move the needle or improve the team, and JVR actually is a better goal scorer than Drouin, which is what Philly is looking to improve so I don't see it happening.

i disagree. PHI saves $500k, and gets the younger player (by 6 years) - who is also has no NMCs. I think thats an easy Yes from Philly. You're still up against it in cap space, but you just got a little more for your RFAs.

Thats fair, but I just don't see moving the needle for us, and like I said I feel like if it only saves 500k, we could save that in a number of ways. I think we'd rather trade and retain on JVR and try to get rid of most of the contract or if we get a player thats close in price and have to retain, we'd like to get a player with 1 less year than Drouin/JVR term so we have cap open up for the G/Coots free agency year.

Also, I think AV would hate Drouin.

EDIT: One thought I just considered is leaving Drouin unprotected, and may be more likely to get picked than even JVR by Seattle. Drouin's game is just redundant for the Flyers so if we get him, I hope we don't keep him for the rest of his contract.
