Signing Piet Krug and Demko

Created by: CivicWhistle861
Team: 2020-21 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 28, 2020
Published: Sep. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A way to sign Piet, Krug and a solid backup goaltender.
This leaves 2.1 mil in cap available for an increase in UFAs or unexpected costs or paying for next years UFAs. Leave a comment on your thoughts below!

Resign UFAs Stephenson and Lehner is a must and Nosek is optional depending on how Krebs is and jack Dugan are doing.
Trade 1. I personally don't think Demko is worth a first at this stage but I would be willing to do it if necessary. Mcnabb is a good D but no necessary for Vegas. Note Demko is my first option but not my last.
Trade 2. I find very fair to both teams and wonder how much Jets value Stastny.
Trade 3. Maybe the most controversial, Fleury is still a tier 1 goalie and although he may be too expensive for Vegas he can still make an impact on other teams. I would be willing to give high picks to trade him as well. I don't think a buyout is necessary. He only has 2 years left and teams are free to renegotiate.
Trade 4. Vegas has plenty of LD and although I really do find Martinez strong, he is too expensive to spend 4 mil on for a 3rd pair D. Note he has 1 year left.

If that's true I would take Martinez over Krug and probably keep the rest.

Demko's value is unaltered by having 1 year left. He expires a RFA.

Nonetheless, we do not want a bottom pairing defenseman and a couple of picks. I'm not trying to inflate his value, but for a previous top prospect finally showing signs of meeting it last year - we have to either exploit his value now, or keep him and continue his development.

Agree on krug, have a feeling pietrangelo may get a reality check and fall in 8.5 range for two reasons: flat cap and karlsson/doughty deals haven't worked out great

How much is demko worth to you? I don't think a couple elite playoffs games makes his value go crazy but I can also recognize potential and hopefully is asking price next year is only around 4 mil. That being unpredictable is why im weary about giving high value for a backup.

Vancouver declines they need RD not LD
No ones taking fleurys contract at 7mil Vegas would need to retain and the Sen’s are going to be the one team trying to spend as little money as possible Ottawa declines
Jets decline they wouldn’t match what Vegas was willing to pay Stastny as a ufa so they let him walk and he’s a 45 point player over the last 5 yrs not worth 6.5mil Vegas would need to retain to move his contract
CBJ decline they need scoring in the top 6 d is there strong suit not looking to add

Krug needs at least 7,5 mil and Pietrangelo 9 - 9,5 mil. Also, their center depth would be on Detroit's level. You are not going to make playoffs with that center depth, let alone win the cup.

If Krug was willing to take that, he'd have signed with Boston already

Won't be able to re-sign Hague, Whitecloud, Glass and Demko with that Krug contract. That's why holding off on giving Martinez an extension is a good idea for now, and he's the perfect stop gap for Hague to develop.

Noway is Krug signing for 6 x $6,500,000 he'd stay in Boston for that he wants closer to $7,500,000 to $8,000,000 there's no freaking way that Vegas is adding both Krug and Pietrangelo you're at least looking at $16 million combined for both if not more.

“Net front presence,” doesn’t refer to goalies.

wouldn't part with Marty. Krug and Pietrangelo Is too much, stick with Pietrangelo. Vegas has some young d, a lot of good development opportunities here with the right mentors. like stastny to WPG

And believe it or not Columbus has ZERO interest in a left shot dman. We have 6 nhl caliber LDs.

Columbus and needing to add a LHD is the funniest thing I’ve read all day. We already have Werenski, Murray, Kukan, Gavrikov, Nuttivaara, Harrington, and Carlsson who are LHD and could play at the NHL level.... I think they may be good on LHD... you can keep Martinez we’d rather have the draft picks.

Kind of just seeing if it would work, I personally wouldn't give up Martinez for Krug but this shows in a utopia it can be done. Will it be done no, but some parts do make sense imo.
