Detroit fans will say no because you didn't include Necas and 2020 1st Rd. pick. They don't want solid hockey players that are better than 90% their current roster. They only want draft picks that may or may not ever make to the NHL.

There’s no way this team is worst. Craig Smith is a yearly 20 goal scorer, Bobby Ryan has potential to be a 15-20 goal scorer, Josh Leivo is very underrated but suffered a season ending injury last year and Greiss is a significant upgrade on Reimer but also doesn’t block Askarov if the Canes draft him in the first round.

A. Greiss isn’t better than Reimer. He is a career backup, older, and more expensive. He is getting ready to hit the 35 year old goalie cliff when we start play back. Outside of his one really good year he is below a replacement level goalie. How does he make us better again?
2. Moving Gardiner and Dzingel who aren’t cap dumps with a first is just dumb..
3. We hope Ryan and Smith are better than Dzingel, Martinook, and McGinn. No guarantee of that. To top it off you had to give a first rounder to make room for them. Smith isn’t a first line guy. He is a 3rd line guy.
4. Adding McKeown over Gardiner, just makes the defense cheaper. The defense isn’t better.

For the record, I am on board with all of these UFA signings. All seem like realistic value acquisitions by the Canes front office.

Personally, I'd take that deal. It's not that the Wings don't want solid players, it's that the window of being competitive is still a couple of years away so they are playing a long game. Yzerman has stated over and over that they're trying to stockpile picks and prospects. Yes, Gardner is better than a lot of guys the Wings threw out on the ice last year but he also has three years left on a contract that has a significant cap hit. Given his play the last couple of years, it's a contract that makes him overpaid.

The values are fine, they just don’t make us better. Its more of what we have. Value signings hoping that they pan out.

Wings say yes, it’s a cheap puck moving d who becomes 2LHD and nemeth can be moved for picks prospects, dzingel can become a deadline deal and a first. It’s exactly the deal they want. Doesn’t make sense for Carolina too much

Wings would accept this and that now makes it 4 out of 4 that would take it. DRW will take on players for futures as Yzerman has publicly stated building through the draft and practice patience. Doesn’t make sense for them to trade for guys but rather acquire overpaid still effective NHL players like this and then later retain and flip again. Your logic also doesn’t make sense because Carolina just wasted 6.25M in cap to acquire a first rounder instead of solidifying their roster for the playoffs so I’d wager GMs know the importance of a constant stream of ELCs.
