Kings would rather keep Carter, although you can make this a three-way trade where we eat JVR cap and get a high pick.

I actually think this makes the team better and is somewhat feasible

Would you rather keep Carter? JVR is the better player at this point and 5 years younger, if have thought that it works for both sides?

The 3 way trade isn't a bad idea though, hadn't considered that, might look into it another time.

I mean it's a lot to pull off that only really happens if Pietrangelo has any interest in signing here. I do think Laughton should be shopped a little though (he's the sort of cheap but good guy teams want in their middle 6 where we have plenty) and I expect Ghost to go.

The biggest downside here is you can't protect all the good young players in the expansion with Pietrangelo on the books.

Yes, the Kings would rather keep Carter. His contract ends a year earlier, and in the meantime he provides leadership to the kids. Retaining salary on Carter essentially makes JVR a $8.25M player. While the Kings could easily absorb that much, Philly would need to compensate the Kings for doing so.

Drop the retention and send the draft pick the other way and the Kings would consider this trade. If you need the Kings to retain, then up the pick to a 2nd going to LA. Otherwise, the Kings are good with keeping Carter.

Precisely this, Carter is still producing, brings leadership, and has more playoff game experience than anyone else on the team. Carter also provides the value of being a decent trade value next season if he continues to produce and the Kings retain half.
