Mack in great, no question. I don't think he's that much better that he demands a young RHD stud and 8th OA on top of Eichel. No way. Both teams have the guy they want, so a trade obv isnt realistic. But Eichel's value is much closer to Mack then you're talking.

Speaking only from an Colorado perspective here -
Eichel is a phenomenal player, but the role he plays for the Sabres is the same role MacKinnon plays for the Avalanche. Both guys play 20 minutes a night and have the puck a lot when they’re on the ice. It’s similar to Toronto’s current situation with Matthews and Tavares. Yes, both guys are elite players and Eichel would absolutely make the Avalanche better. But it’s not the most efficient use of cap resources. They would have to make sacrifices elsewhere on their roster. Not to mention, you are doubling down by giving up a solid role player, two first round picks, and two high end prospects who will have the opportunity it’s to contribute in the NHL for 3 years on the ELC + the rest of their careers.

Are you kidding? It's a huge overpayment. An A+ defensive prospect, an A- centre prospect, an established middle 6 NHL ready centre, & 2 1st round picks? This year's draft is deep. & there's no telling where the Avalanche finish in 2022. Eichel is good, even great. But I don't think the Avs touch this.

LOL... Mackinnon is better than Eichel. Yeah sure, not by much though. Mackinnon has had the better support around him to help. If Mackinnon and Eichel were swapped, everyone would be talking about Eichel the same way as they talk about Mackinnon right now. But sure, teams are different and you can say Mackinnon is better. But the difference between Mackinnon and Eichel is no where close to a young stud, NHL d-man, the 6th overall pick in a very deep draft, plus more. Give your heads a shake if that's what you think.
