Wasn’t sure of Lauzon’s value. I was just looking for a cheap young RHD that could play 3rd pair and had more potential than Friedman. With Krug all but out of Boston I thought Ghost to Boston made some sense.

Could. Just not for Lauzon. Maybe Moore/Ritchie plus a 2nd or a prospect?

Well Lauzon isn’t a RHD and I would think Boston would rather save the near 4 mil difference by having Lauzon in the lineup

I don't hate the idea of Ghost to Boston, but $4.5 million for 3 more years is a lot considering Ghost has been declining the last few seasons. Lauzon also plays RHD, but is actually a LHD that moved over because Boston wanted to get a look at him in the NHL and it was the only way to do it. If this was the deal, I'd rather have Lauzon and the extra $3.6 million in cap space.

I’ll pass.

Moore and 3rd or 4th maybe. Taking Ghost full contract screws Boston’s ability to add the LD1 they do need.

I'd probably do Moore for Ghost as both guys are signed for 3 more years

Boston get a potential replacement for Krug (assuming Ghost regains his form from a few years ago)
Philly saves around $1.75 million in cap space

I think the value is swayed in Boston's favor. Ghost still can bounce back and be a major offensive contributor but with Moore he's just gonna either sit in the press box or allow goals if he's playing.

Well if a move could get his head back together and make ghost look like he did in his first couple seasons then its a steal for Boston. It might be worth the gamble.

or Ghost could continue to decline and Boston has $4.5 million on the cap for a OFD that is declining. If the rumors are true and they've been shopping him since last season its kind of telling of his value if no team has acquired him. As it stands it sounds like Ghost may not even have a spot next year. He was 4th among PHI d-men last year in ATOI, but the difference in ATOI between he and the #6 guy was just over a minute.

If he's just going to sit upstairs, what's the difference if he's up there or Moore? At least with more PHI saves some cap space

Some GM's hold value in what they've accomplished and hold out hope they revitalize themselves.

Tough to do for Ghost if he's not even starting for PHI next year isn't it?

if that's the case I guess not? but I don't see why they'd do Boston any favors by 1v1. They'd want something of value. Not just a swap of bodies.

roughly $2 million in cap space isn't value? They have roughly $6 million in cap space with only 17 guys signed. Nolan, Myers & Braun all need new deals, they need a back-up goalie and next year they'll have guys like Hart, Niskanen, Sanheim needing new deals.

If they really wanted to they could buyout Moore and save another $1.4 to $1.9 million per season over the next 3 years with only a $800k hit the 3 years after that. If they buyout Ghost they save $2.6 this year, but only around $400k the 2 years after that. Then in the last 3 years of the buyout it cost them around $600k

You really think John Moore is the best they can do on the market? I'd trade PHI a mid to Late pick for Ghost.

Lauzon plays right side. Can play both sides but has played more right side in Providence and Boston. If I am Sweeney I would look to make another deal to get Ghost. Its tough to give up a dman that an organization drafted, molded, developed and can play both sides. I like Ghost though.

Did I say it was the best they could do? No, no I didn't. I'm looking at this from Boston's point of view and what makes sense for them. Again Boston take a gamble on a $4.5 million LHD that appears to be declining and PHI gets around $2 million in cap space (more if they buyout Moore). If there is a team out there that provides a better offer then great, no one will lose sleep about missing out on Ghost.

You’re right that he plays RD, that does not make him a RHD however.

Ghost would be fine in the line up but only for the right price. Bruins have two offensive UDFA’s in Prov (Ahcan and Zech) where you have to think at least one will make the jump in a couple of years. In that case, I’d be looking at a LHD Dman that can replace the load Chara had taken in the past.
