Shot Suppression is what we need

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Left with less cap space than I would like, but there are two main themes here.

Double Down on defenders. Adding two players and keeping Travis Dermott creates depth and competition. Demelo had wonderful results last year on a terrible Ottawa team. Roy similar in LA and is a potential stud. You get a year of him cheap to see what he can do beside Reilly. You also have the ability to make a move if somebody like Lehtonen, Sandin or Liljegren really press the issue. But having depth and options is far better (I think) then just adding one big guy and being thin again.

Adding Larsson and Fast are forwards with great defensive results. They can help you close out games against top teams. There's also some pieces to shuffle that line around and turn it into an offensive threat if you need to catch up. Not sure I love Robertson on the 4th line but he would clearly have the chance to earn his way higher in the lineup (similar to Kapanen/Johnsson when they started). I think the salaries are somewhat in line but even if not it's all just a theoretical exercise anyway.

Trades I thought value was close, if LA wanted more I would add, but LA fans seemed to think it close or they would even have to add. I don't care about that, I just want Roy. They might have interest in Dermott, might not. Johnsson for a third I figured was close and he'd fit in nicely in NJ's middle 6.

It lacks the major headline making addition but I think is a stronger roster top to bottom and the depth will be the best that Toronto has had in the last 4 years.

Massive overpayment for Roy. I understand that he is a good player who is great defensively, but come on man he had one good year. You trade high picks like that for guys like Muzzin who are established NHL players that can log big minutes on your blueline, play well defensively, and put up points. Roy is good, but he is far from that level.

I'm pretty sure we argued about this the other day. I heavily disagree. His metrics heavily disagree. You don't have to agree with me, but I think he's a fantastic option to upgrade at RHD and comes with team control.

I guess a question for you would be, who do you think you're going to get who is better in a trade for that pick? Most teams aren't jumping up and down to trade away their top defenders.

I can see your argument but in a cap crunch, Roy is a 700k top 4 player who the Kings are very high on. I don't think a 2nd will be enough to nab the player that was named our best defensive player, best active defensive prospect (I guess Bjornfoot is better, but not really made the team yet) and received a lot of praise from our coaching staff. As crazy as it sounds, with all the factors going on right now this is fairer than you think.

I think a package of a 2nd+Mikheyev or Dermott is closer imo. I just don't see the leafs moving that pick for him when they could draft a guy like Schneider who will have a higher ceiling then Roy imo.

I think a lot of people disagree with that (about Schneider), but that's okay. Even so, he's at least 4 years away from making an impact on the roster. Who knows what happens in 4 years? Roy can help RIGHT NOW and help shore up the weakest spot on the entire roster. If he doesn't work out, with his team control he will still have value if they choose to move him. I think it's a price worth paying.

The issue is the Kings can wait, the Leafs can't. You are win now and waiting on a defensive prospect will take time. A 2nd+Mikheyev would be great but we don't have a RD to take over for Roys's minutes, so if you want to take a guy who is cheap, can play the minutes you need, and has a ceiling that continues to raise, the Kings need to get paid. If it's too expensive, we are totally fine with that. We want to keep Roy.
