Description

TLDR? = Stand pat and tank. Look to 2021-22 as a better season

Johnson, Bjugstad, Donato, Dubnyk, Hartman, and Foligno are all on expiring contracts. GMBG sees no burning need to trade Dumba or acquire a C1. He's warned the fans repeatedly that trades for a C1 don't happen. I think what he's actually doing is setting us up for a sink or swim year. If Bjugstad, Johnson, and/or Rask figure it out, then you've got another C2. If not, then it's easy to let them walk in UFA/buyout Rask next year.

Running out Dubnyk helps in this case. If Dubnyk is good we make the playoffs. If he's terrible, we sit him and save the cap space next year.

In the expansion draft, you protect 8 skaters: Parise, Zuccarello (ugh), Fiala, JEEK, Suter, Spurgeon, Brodin, and Dumba. Kaprizov and Kahkonen are not eligible for the draft. So you lose Kunin, Greenway, or Donato.

Hate to say it, but I think this is the plan.

Hard to see him staying pat, I think his Dumba comments are setting expectations and not a negotiating tactic. Pretty confident Dumba moves before the draft.

I think you're on to something. I will say if Guerin is offered something he views makes the team better then I think he will do it, but he isn't going to except sub par offers.

I think this is the best plan. I also think there is zero chance Idiot owner, Craig Leipold allows this. Hopefully he’s learned from 10 years of insanity...
