Going for win-win deals

Created by: Eli
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 29, 2020
Published: Sep. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NSH gets the best player in the deal, so Buf gets better at three other positions and saves a little bit of cap space to make other improvements.

Pitlick's not really bettter than Novak, so at a likely 1M cap hit, I figure he's trade bait to repair the roster after trading for Eichel.

Both teams decline the Eichel trade. That's a brutal roster NSH is left with, but where's the upgrade to wing you mention for BUF? NSH isn't sending a winger back here. Unless you consider losing Okposo as an upgrade for the Sabres?

You're saying Buf declines because they don't want to play Bonino on the wing? Two can play gotcha, if that's what we're doing.

They get a center who, although I know this is controversial, is an even better option at 1C than Marcus Johansson.

edit: but maybe NSH adds their 2nd, because last year Turris wasn't good, and his contract is expensive.

No need to get defensive, nobody's playing gotcha here. I asked about the wing, because there wasn't one from NSH in your proposal. I don't remember Bonino playing wing in the past, and without seeing your potential BUF roster I couldn't know you had him penciled in there. There's a lot of good pieces from NSH here, but not a blue-chip prospect or star roster player. I can't see the Sabres making an Eichel trade without getting at least one of those components as part of the return.

Maybe. That's why Buffalo accepts.

What Nashville does next to fix it is up to Poile.

This is posted in response to a Buffalo fan yesterday telling me they wouldn't make a trade without at least an alleged #1C going back, and they cited Ryan Johansen as the bare minimum. He's not my cup of tea, but I can see he's been there and played the minutes. Downgrading to Ryan Johansen doesn't immediately nix Buffalo's playoff hopes in 2021. Adding two picks from a team like the above that looks like it's headed for the lottery could be good for Buffalo, long term.

I don't understand why you'd make a mock for NSH, if you know you're making them a worse team. Maybe presenting your proposal from BUF's side would make more sense, but that's just me. I can't see the logic for NSH here. Downgrading the team to the point where they're a likely lottery team, but trading their 1st in the next draft seems counterproductive.

You do that. You seem cranky and defensive. Might be due to low blood sugar.
