Leafs Blues No Parayko or Pietrangelo

Created by: BigAnderson

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Johnsson is better than what his value currently is but do feel like Leafs need a shakeup in their bottom 6. I like a lot of parts of Barbashev’s game and he seems like a popular trade piece among Blues fans on here and Bobby Ortuzzo seems like every blues fans least favourite player as he doesn’t bring much other than a physical nastiness which Leafs could use in a 6/7 Dman. Feel better about this deal if Blues could move out last year of Bozak deal somewhere though

I really like that forward group, but idk if the defence is good enough. There's no guarantee Liljegren is ready to play in the NHL next year - also dermott has yet to find success anywhere other than the bottom pair

engvall is not a natural Center and didn't not play there this year, switch with spezza then switch engvall on the left and finally barabanov on the 4R spot

right def isn't fixed, having a first pair with muzzin and holl is sad asf. bortuzzo won't solve anything here we need a shutdown captain to play with reilly

Is Know there’s no guarantee Lily is ready but Lehtonen can play right side and bring Sandin up instead and use Ortuzzo to play against the more physical teams. Dermott has shown enough flashes to at least be given a shot next to Rielly and I think their styles of play match up well. And if all of that fails, there’s cap space accruing to make an upgrade

Engvall played centre when he lined up with Spezza more often than not and I think Manny can help guys like Engvall, Kerfoot and in this case Barbashev improve in the faceoff department. Nobody really knows what Barabanov is going to be able to do in the NHL yet but idea with extra forwards is to rotate the 4th line depending on the team they’re playing. D core is far from perfect but banking on some internal growth from the younger guys and have space to change if need be. When healthy Muzzin and Holl were the go to shutdown pair so don’t see a reason to not pair them together again. I don’t really give a damn about handedness, didn’t seem to slow down Dallas or Vegas this year and Tampa’s left side is ridiculously better than their right side was.

Plenty of value for STL but there would have to be other moves for it to make sense. Already have the top-9 wings under control and need Bortuzzo as a cheap stay-at-home option on D to pair with Perunovich. They might consider moving Barbashev since he's getting pigeon-holed into 4C and might have more upside than he's showing, but at this point, it would be to recoup some futures like a pick/prospect (IMO that 2021 2nd rounder would do the trick. Not gonna ask for the Barclay Goodrow return but it's kinda along those lines, a low-cost guy that can skate, hit, kill penalties, bring energy, bang in a few goals.)

If nothing else, props for coming up with a non-parayko non-petro trade
