Based on Poiles Press Conference

Created by: ZPirtle
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 29, 2020
Published: Sep. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Poile said Granlund, Smith, Weber, and Holzer wouldn't return. Sissons likely would play on a higher line. Tinordi is here to stay, and to look for a youth infusion. Well, here goes.

There's enough cap to sign a veteran D to help out the 3rd pair and improve from Tinordi. I hope Turris gets moved/bought out and the young guys work out, otherwise we're in for a long season.

Don't think Tomasino and Tolvanen will be up. I think it'll be just Tolvanen to make Tomasino's ELC slide a bit more

If I’m Poile I’d take that nice and high 1st and see if you can get Detroit or Ottawa to make Turris go away and use that cap space to go after a Hoffman and a RHD like DeMelo.

I don’t like the idea of giving up a high pick to give up a bad contract. Maaaaybe if the Preds has real pressing cap issues but they’re not in a terrible position cap wise. Just keep Turris until you NEED to get rid of him. This will probably one of if not THE worst offseason to dump bad contracts

I think it is a pretty decent mistake to not sign Craig Smith.

Only looking for a three year deal, utility knife forward who drives offense at an elite rate, but because he only pots twenty-ish goals himself will come between 4 and 5 million? That's going to be a steal for someone.

Smith is good for 20G in the regular season then completely disappears in the playoffs. He isn't worth that imo. If he would show up for the playoffs sure but since he doesn't.... I'll let some other team pay him.

The team is beginning to show its age. They need young players coming in. The 1st will be used to help rebuild the diminished pipeline and Turris probably bought out if Bonino isn't moved.

Tomasino has impressed every chance he's been given. He looked great in camp. I think he has a decent chance to make the team. Tolvanen I'm less sure about but it's about time to fish or cut bait with him so he needs to be given a proper chance.

The only though would be to use that 6 mil to help the team now giving them 10 mil in cap space. Allowing them to go after Hoffman and DeMelo or get a Hall to improve the offense, they need something to help the team now and putting 6 mil in the stands doesn’t help them and honestly this team is worse then they were last year and for a team who’s considered a contender and spending that much on players like Duchene, Forsberg, Josi and Ellis, they need to do something before their window closes and with Rinne just getting older it could be closing rather quickly unless Saros steps up like he did last year and truly is the number 1 in Nashville.

While that definitely could be how Poile is thinking, as an outsider I think Nashville needs to tear it down as best as they can. I don’t rly love how their team is built, and every year I feel like the window is shutting for them faster and faster. And if they add Hall, imagine how much buzz that locker room would get as being cancerous

This can't happen. The prospect pool is too weak, and the team is aging. Signing UFAs like this will only put us in the position LA or Chicago has been the last few seasons, and if there aren't cups to show for it, it's all been for nothing. If one of extra the 2nd or 3rd round picks is enough to make this happen, that's fine, but trading the 1st has to be off the table.

do most of you guys think the window has closed, or do you think the preds would be a good spot for a year of palmieri, potentially with some money retained?

I think Poile is trying to infuse some youth and keep the guys who are performing to see if it sparks anything. Palmieri already knowing Hynes system and putting up 50 pts a year would be a wise addition in my opinion, but it'll definitely depend on price. At his age, I don't know if we'd resign him and our prospect pool is pretty weak.
