These are all pretty bad for Vancouver. The Sutter one maybe if Markstrom doesn't re-sign but I'd rather have Eriksson over Abdelkater, Gaudette over Copp and Virtanen over Armia.

Hmmm, not sure about the Det one. Higher cap hit but a year less term.... I don’t hate it, I just don’t see much incentive. If losing 2 mil in cap is that important than how about adding a late pick kicker

Koskinen is actually not a bad goaltender and we kinda need him to play goal. Easy pass

Interesting trade that MTL one. In my opinion it would be no but that's just me. I just really love Armia.... But the value is here for both side. Really interesting

Habs need more RWers not to trade one out of town for another. I have always liked the idea of adding Virtanen though

Hell no. Virtanen’s a crap player & human being, and we aren’t moving Armia unless we get fair value.

Canucks save over 4 mill this coming season buying out Abdelkader compared to keeping loui. Then they save about 3.8 million the next. The catch is the buy out lasts 6 years with at least 1 million in cap each year

Coop definitely is a lower offensive ceiling than Gaudette, also a few years older.

But he’s really good 5 on 5 and on the pk. Much better defensively than Gaudette as well. Canucks need a bottom 6 that’s better in their own end. This accomplished that.

Eriksson for abdelkader is in order to buy out abdelkader.

Virtanen for armia is whatever. Only really included it because Jake is on the block so I’m just replacing him with a stop gap until Podkolzin comes over. If it’s no fair then just ignore it and pretend I signed Jake to fill that role

Yeah it’s only in there because Virtanen is on the trade block. Imo I’d be fine with Van just re-signing him to a deal with a simile cap hit to Armia’s.

Here's the thing

Koskinen was a top 15 goalie this season
Sutter sucked this season

This trade frees up a lot of space to go after UFA goalies for Edmonton (holtby, Markstrom, Lehner, etc.) Oil are also rumoured to be interested in Raanta. Re-allocating cap to a team need (3C) is a helpful move, plus Sutters contract has one year less on it.

That being said, if Canucks has to add a sweetener I would do it

Yeah and then he was like, really bad in the playoffs. And for some reason Tippet went with Smith over him to start? And the oilers are rumoured to be looking to add a starting goalie?

I don’t think the oilers think of highly of Koskinen as you do. He’s a good back up. Not much more

Of course Detroit takes this deal. The overall cap hit is about the same but being done in 2yrs instead of 3yrs and Eriksson had 4x the points that Abdelkader had this season.

Detroit would do that. They can afford the extra cap hit and it's done 1 year sooner. Eriksson also is capable of scoring goals without Pavel Datsyuk as his center. Can't say the same for Abby.

It was a 4 game sample size...
If anyone isn't returning next year, it's Smith.

According to goaltending analytics, he was the 9th best goalie in the league in the regular season. Put up a .917 SV% (what was Markstrom SV% again?) behind a team that finished 26th in the league for EV goals against/game

Saying Koskinen is just a backup is a really bad take

Holtby instead of Koskinen makes our team worse. Holtby could barely put up a .900 SV% behind the defensive minded Capitals.
