Complete Mortgage of the Future

Created by: David_McDavid
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 29, 2020
Published: Sep. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All in on now - if it doesn't pan out in two years - sell all the high end talent for draft picks and completely rebuild.

Hard sell on Hall to take a one year deal - but next summer trade Nurse and use his cap space to sign Hall to a Draisaitl like deal. Get Connor to put in that phone call to his old roommate.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts.

I could see Hall potentially coming back to Edmonton but he'd want a long term deal upfront. Also put Draisaitl on the first line.

Eichel 78 points.
This trade package combined points 76. Call me crazy but I think Buffalo declines.

Wings pass.

You managed to dump 12.5 million of cap in 2021, and 9.5 million in cap for 2022 for a future 1st and a B prospect.
Koskinen is a decent goalie but he is 32 and slightly overpaid.

Neal had one good year After last years disaster, but he does play with two great players in McDavid and Leon.

It will take more than a 11st to take on that amount of cap

he was a top 15 goalie this season and only makes about 4.5M.
.917 SV% this season is about average. Markstrom's SV% is also in that range, and there are reports that he'll sign for around 7M

Barely played. With this logic... Jake Allen wasn't a cap dump as well with .935 save percentage. Hint. He was a cap dump

How many goalies can you name that have a lower cap hit than Koskinen (4.5M) and a higher SV% (.917)?

He played 37 games out of 71, which is a decent sample size

And Allen does really bad according to the public goalie models, because the Blues' defense is one of the best in the NHL. Meanwhile, Koskinen played on the Oilers, and we all know how bad that defense is. That defense finished 26th in the league for EV goals against/game

Only 30 goalies played 35+ games this year, it's reasonable to call them all "starters" as there are 31 teams. Of those goalies, Koskinen ranked 6th in sv%. So there were just 5 starters who were better than him this year: Rask, Hellebuyck, Bishop, Lehner and Markstrom. Only Markstrom had a lower cap hit.

Koskinen's .917 sv% tied him with Vasilevskiy and Crawford.

http://www.nhl.com/stats/goalies?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20192020&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,35&sort=savePct&page=0&pageSize=50

FYI, Koskinen played more games this season than Lehner did - I guess Lehner shouldn't be considered a starting goalie either.

Comparing Lehner to Koskinen. brah

I already posted last year's numbers, so here are the numbers for this year.

At 5v5
RL: .879 sv% / .778 HDsv%
MK: .904 sv% / .873 HDsv%

Overall:
RL: .890 sv% / .816 HDsv%
MK: .897 sv% / .797 HDsv%

Both guys are having poor years but Lehner is worse. And he wasn't run into the ground early with very little defensive support.
