Indeed. Although both would be great fits in SJ

Leaf fans have been moving those players each for 3rd rounders all offseason and now packaged together they’re worth a 1st plus a 3rd? Hard no.

While it's true that Leafs fans on this site often make those trades, most of those guys don't understand how valuable both players could be. They're both good middle-six forwards who can play in the top-six and are under 25 on solid deals. People often forget how good Johnsson was in his rookie year and how valuable a good 3C is. If Kapanen (a guy who's probably worse than both these players) can get the 13th OA and more, these guys can definitely get at least a late first.

Not when the salary cap is flat and everyone knows the Leafs are in a position to have to cut salary to address other needs. They're not dealing from a position of strength in any deal for these two as there are very few teams that can fork out $7 million for a pair of 3rd liners.

Sorry but the max you're getting out of these players is a 2nd and a 3rd.

Then how did Kapanen get 13th OA, a prospect and a solid player?

Because Rutherford is an absolute moron, and he overpaid by a pretty hefty sum. One trade doesn't define all similar trades further down the line. Kapanen was and still is worth probably 20 OA one for one if we're being realistic. That's without Hallander or Rodrigues. He's also on a decent contract. Kerfoot and Johnsson are both decent as well, but they still take up a hefty $7 million in cap space. Let's be honest, that's exactly why Toronto would be looking to get rid of them. Johnsson has inflated stats from playing with an absolutely stacked Leafs offense, and has injury issues which drags down his value. Kerfoot is decent, but he's nothing special defensively, something teams would be looking for in a 3C. There's just no way that any GM with a rational train of thought would pay more than a 2nd and a 3rd for these two guys combined in my opinion.

No one is giving up a 1st for 2 3rd liners... You are lying to yourself if you think this is a trade SJ would ever consider.

So you trade a 4th line center with term to a cup contender and get back the 31st pick and you wouldn’t trade that pick for 2 guys that can play in you’re middle 6 power play and PK and both have term.
