NJD doesn't want Santini! He was already dumped in the Subban deal to lighten the $$.

While Santini was dumped in the Subban deal, this trade provides NJD an additional 4.35M in actual $$$; they could either keep Santini, bury his contract in the minors or trade him again (with retained salary if need be).

Why would we exchange a guy who's on permanent LTIR for an on-ice and on-books drag? And move back in the draft (even if it is the sixth round) while we're at it?

You can have Kesler's paper for the cap dump and your 2021 second.

The trade was made to save ANA 270K in actual $$$ paid.

Cernak could be offer sheeted at 4.363M and Tampa would only receive a 2nd rounder if they do not match; this trade gives them a 2nd rounder + Stecher who will be cheaper but not as good.

We owe Kesler $1.375 million this year and again next year. The rest is covered by insurance. Baertschi costs $2.4 million. I'd rather save the money and cap hit this year and end up paying more money overall when we pay Kesler next year, when Getzlaf's salary comes off the books.

Anaheim is very cleverly set up financially. For example, this season's actual payroll will be close to $10 million less than the aggregate cap hit.
