Detroit just got a 2nd got 1 year at 5.7. Eriksson cost more, has longer term, and is completely shot.

Gonna cost more than a 2nd.

Detroit isn’t $23M under the Cap like ottawa. This is almost free cap for them for this year and next while it only costing them $1,333,333M over 4 years. Staal is costing them $3.2 in actual money in 1 year. 2nd is more than fair.

The bar has been set. 3 year at 6 million dollars for a player that is producing as a 4th liner is going to cost more than a 2nd

In case you didn’t read or notice. Ottawa in this scenario buys out Eriksson and he only has 2 years left.

So you think a team will buy out a player for a 2nd round pick? That ain't happening.

Montreal bought out Steve Mason for a bottom 6 Forward in Armia and a 4th and a 7th. Difference is they weren’t in a position like ottawa where Dead Cap is what the covet right now.

Wings pass, not giving up a 2nd for a guy who never scored 20 goals in 5 years

Carolina did it for a 1st.

Also like Marleau, I believe Mason was in the last year of his contract. Eriksson has what, 2, 3 years left? Not even close to happening in a normal nhl salary cap situation, tie in covid and a flat cap for the next few years, youre smoking some good ganja.

Marleau over 35 when signed the contract which means even with a buyout cap hit was locked in at $6M so that necessitates a 1st agreed. Mason, 1 year left cost Montreal $1,366,667/year for 2 years. Eriksson 2 years left, Vancouver RETAINING 50% Means Ottawa’s (And Vancouver still)CapHit (not actual money) is only $2,833,333 year 1 and then $1,833,333 the year after then $333,333 the last 2 years. Maybe at a mid level prospect but not getting anything more than a 2nd. And btw the ganja is not bad. But no clouding of my judgement or opinion on the matter.

Dude, you're high as a kite if you think a team is going to buy out a player with multiple years of a contract left for a 2nd round pick.

avs dont want to waste cap space on your cap dump, a 2nd isnt enough to waste up the cap they have to play with this offseasn.

Virtanen doesn’t scream Yzerman type of player based on his history of trading away ADA/Drouin. I’m not sure why there a bunch of ACGMs with him going to Detroit.

OTT isn’t doing that trade, and no way Melnyk does it and buts out Ericksson after buying out Ryan. COL declines they will be using their cap space on guys that can help them win now.
