I wouldn't trade Dermott for a 3rd. Makes more sense just to keep him, imo.

I've seen a lot of Leafs fans dump him off to us for a third in their crazy Pietrangelo agms, I also never really got it but figured it made enough sense

Yeah, it happens a lot. I've probably been guilty of it a couple times, lol. I'm not opposed to trading him at all, it would just depend on what else was in store with the team. In a vacuum, I wouldn't do this because I think he's going to be relatively cheap (may even sign his QO) and he's very good on the 3rd pair and has done fairly well when moving up due to injury. Could potentially be an option on the right side, as well.

Neither Andersson nor Hajek helps us on the right side, but the basic idea of Rakell for De Angelo has some appeal. Maybe Rakell and Jacob Larsson (a far better idea than experimenting with Tucker Poolman at #3 LD) for De Angelo and the Carolina first plus?

They aren't a rebuilding team, have the cap space and are willing to pay him money that Tampa doesn't really have the flexibility to give him right now.

But why would he leave a team that he could go back to back with for a team that’s not really a cup contender for another 4 years just for an extra 1mil

To be honest I'm not sure. I just know he would be a good fit with the Rangers, in all likelihood he will just end up staying in tampa. Just trying to think of what a reasonable offer would be and it does not include 1OA.
