Building Another Cup Champion - Trading Cirelli

Created by: CoopsTroops
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 1, 2020
Published: Oct. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going back-to-back is never reasonably expected, however, following the same formula as before could yield the same result.

At Forward:
- The Palat/Point/Kucherov line returns.
- Stamkos rejoins the 2nd line with Gourde moving up to LW and Ryan signing on for a cup run after being bought out by Ottawa.
- Chytil slides into the Goodrow/Coleman line after being traded from NY.
- Stephens and Volkov join Maroon to continue the Lightning's history of having a reliable defensive 4th line.
- The only concern among these lines to me is Chytil's defensive play. Moving from a rebuild org to one in the middle of competing for the cup every season would heighten expectations to perform on both sides of the ice, especially alongside Goodrow and Coleman.

At Defense:
- Sergachev lands a deal similar to McAvoy's.
- Cernak is re-signed.
- Bogo is brought back because.
- Foote gets to play a lot of NHL minutes with Schenn or Rutta as alternatives and Gaunce available in a pinch.
- My main concern on defense is Foote stepping in to play big minutes in what was one of the strongest groups on the team during 2020. If he cannot make it this year, Rutta and Schenn fill out 3RD as A & B options.

In Net:
- The long-running tradition of the Rangers sending players to Tampa via trade or free agency (after a buyout in this case - again) continues. King Henrik signs at the league minimum to backup Vasy for one last run at the cup.

Misc:
- Don't get caught up in the Johnson's NTC, if someone who wants him is found its there or waivers in my ruthless ACGM.
- Expansion draft strategy could involve looking to sell Seattle on McDonagh as their top pairing LD, or to take Gourde, to clear out cap for signings once bridge deals expire in the next 2-3 years.
- Coburn is an assumed retiree, otherwise he's traded to another team (Ottawa) to eat his cap for the season but not play.

If McAvoy didn't get that last year as a better player in a non flat cap world, not a chance Sergachev gets that

If he leaves, sure. He isn't leaving when offered an identical contract to McAvoy though.

I’d pull the trigger for Cirelli if that was the package. Then have him C with kakko and Laffy on the 2nd line. Bread plays with Zibby and Kreids. I’m game!

Cirelli did have rough playoffs but when Tyler Johnson arrives on your line .. Gretzky wouldn't be any good

If Gourde can be moved, I would keep Cirelli. I am not sure we'll be able to move all 3 of Killer, Johnson, and Gourde though.

An approx. $2million increase in the cap this offseason likely would have gone a long ways in retaining him.

How about keeping joseph or verhaeghe incase maroon wants a payday? Also chytil is a C, not a winger

Chytil is on wing because Goodrow is likely better in the faceoff circle (which is how I set the lines). A change after puck drop is always possible.

I don't get what some Tampa fans see in Joseph. Verhaeghe would be my first choice if the Big Rig departs to be back-to-back-to-back in a third city, and then I might go Barre-Boulet or Katchouk/Raddysh.

Can see the Rangers doing this...
But I just think the cost is too heavy...want Chytl? Make it Chytl + 2020 3rd
Otherwise 2021 1st + Robertson
or 2021 1st + 2020 3rd + one of: Rykov, Reaunen, or Panjiemi (sorry about spelling)

He's got the most potential of the current Syracuse guys IMO. If Gourde is gone or if Cirelli is traded with no forward in return then I do think he makes the team. He doesn't really fit the 4th line forward role, so there would need to be an open spot on the third line. Goodrow could always be moved down, but he's got more talent than most would think.

There's been at least 10 different ACGM teams on here I have seen trying to acquire Killorn. He's coming off of a career year on a reasonable deal, and his value could very easily reach the value of a 1st.
A mid-first may be pushing it, but Killorn has the most value of the players Tampa needs to move, other than maybe Palat who is likely last to be asked to waive his NTC.

Killhorn is absolutely worth a 1st round pick i 100% agree with you. But Tampa is in such cap hell right now, i m saying you can probably get him for less because of Tampa s situation with the cap.

As I mentioned in another ACGM before, if GMJBB hypothetically has 5 seriously interested parties in Killorn when things are close to being decided, they cannot all pitch "well Julien, you need a salary dump".
