That pens trade is pretty rough. Pens are giving up a lot for very little in return. Yeah gaudreau is the best player in the trade but he isn't worth a #1 goalie, a top4 damn, a middle 6 forward, and a top6 prospect.

While I agree it’s a lot to give up and you could take a piece or two out of that deal, Matt Murray’s value has never been lower. Tristan Jerry’s New contract all but seals that Matt Murray Will be traded. In fact there might already be a deal in place. I can’t imagine his value is very high now. He might even be had for as little as a third round pick.

Jake allen got the blues a 3rd round pick. Saying that Murray is worth the same is ridiculous. Matt Murray is the best goalie available on either the trade market or ufa market in terms of ability, age, and accomplishments. Any thing less than a 2nd rounder and prospect is just not going to happen.

Signing Jarry’s contract before the draft ensures that Murray is getting traded. Pittsburgh cannot afford not to trade him. They have now forced their own hand and teams know it. One needs to be the highest bidder, not that the bids need to be very high. Pittsburgh may not want to move him for less than a second round pick, that does not mean they’ll get an offer they like. They will take the best offer, they aren’t keeping $9 million worth of goaltenders.

What?! Just because teams know they are going to trade him doesn't mean all of a sudden they aren't going to offer anything for him. If it turns into a bidding war that causes prices to go up not down. The only way they would get less is if no team wanted him and there are at least 15 teams that could use an upgrade in goal.

The price only goes up if the demand goes up. There are a ton of goalies on the free-agent market that will come cheaper than him. Only teams looking for a 1B goaltender would even be interested, and they have to have the Cap space to take him on. That already eliminates a large number of teams from even calling about him. when teams know you have to move a player they are apt to lowball you. No one wants to pay more than they have to, and so they will try to pay the least amount possible if they’re really interested anyway.

That's just unrealistic thinking. Name one goalie available that would be a better option for a team for the next 10 plus years. Teams don't "low ball" for players they want.

After a sub 900 save percentage who wants him that badly? I’m curious who will get him and what they’ll pay to do it. All we know for certain is he will be traded.
