I agree, he should have saw the pandemic coming and guessed how the financial market would be affected, then convinced Lehner that both were going to happen and that he should sign for way under market value.

You have one of the best goaltenders in the league who is willing to resign, you make it happen. Plain and simple. I would have signed him for 7 mil prior to the deadline. Couldn’t get a deal done then, you hold onto him and negotiate during the off-season. I do not care about the market changing. Lehner should have been the hawks goaltender going forward 100%.

Color me unsurprised. I knew this was happening as soon as Fleury said that he’d be okay with it

Fleury is ok with everything. He's the most professional and team player of the entire league. But I'm sad for him. It means Vegas will probably buyout his contract.

Vegas needed to wait till they had a trade lined up for Fleury, now trading him will be more than difficult.

UFA begins in 6 days. Gotta think the priority is to ensure they retain Lehner. I don't think anyone looking to obtain Fleury was under the impression that Lehner wouldn't be signed as the starter.

I can't imagine the market for Fleury is strong, that contract is rough.

Absolute steal for the Golden Knights.

That's what happens when an NHL team has the no tax advantage... See Tampa for example.

solid deal. only 5 years.

Cap hit seems low. Might be the new norm this season.
To everyone thinking Murray is going to get 6+ this should be a reality check.

100%. And it doesn’t hurt that it seems like everyone that plays there loves being there.

For a guy that said he "wouldn't be taking any discounts to stay in Chicago," I'm surprised he signed for as little as he did to stay in Vegas. Sure there's no state income tax and a better chance at a championship, but I thought he was going to get a much bigger contract. Phenomenal deal.

NOBODY is going to overpay for Goalies at this time because there are TOO MANY available and on the move which drives the price down and the Smartest Goalies (along with their agents) are the ones who get their deals done quickly before they get pushed out. This term and cap is perfect for Robin Lehner. He's 29 year old and cannot demand more than this at this time when we have a 2-3 year Cap Stabilization. Fleury will now be either traded or bought out because Vegas MUST make room in their current Cap which is ZERO at this point. SMART move Vegas!

Still surprised nobody was willing to offer this guy term. Seems like his mental issues were the main concern, but you can't ignore that he's one of the better goalie in the NHL.

Well just think of all the perks of playing there. They could basically have a hangover movie party 24/7 if they wanted lol

Incredible deal for the team. The amount is so low it's actually almost conceivable that they don't have to move Fleury.

I had him at $6.5 million.

Everyone blaming Stan should take a chill pill lol. Blame him for Seabrook and Panarin for Saad, but certainly not Lehner.

Supply and Demand folks. Murray, Holtby, Markstrom, Greiss, Khudobin, Lundqvist, etc...The goalie market is saturated this offseason. That being said, locking up a legit #1 at $5M AAV with term is pretty remarkable.

Yes, there were a lot of goalies but Lehner and Markstrom were the best ones available (probably top 10 goalies in the NHL). He definitely could have gotten more elsewhere.

Fleury most likely starts the season in Vegas. His cap hit isn't ideal, obviously. But, they can always trade Stastny to free up some cap space.

Am I crazy to think they keep Fleury?

Not at all. They would be near the top of goalie tandems in the league. It’s just a whole lot of salary to allocate to goalies with other holes in there lineup. Should be an interesting week or two here...

Without COVID, Lehner likely gets $7-8M+ on the open market. Good for both of them to finally give Lehner a permanent home.

Does this mean Fleury will be traded?
