And then the market declines for Holtby's demands and he'll come crawling back to Carolina after he waits until November to sign being left in the abyss.

Also, it's not about taking the highest dollar offer in Hall's case. It's that we're his best shot at winning the cup.

I don't think that the Hall sweepstakes now will be about the money. It'll be about deciding where he thinks he's got the best shot to win, and then deciding on base salary depending on moves that the club in question makes.

If Hall is all about possibly winning a cup, It would be Boston or Colorado not Carolina.

Also, I'm skeptical that Holtby gets anything more than $3.5M from anyone. Two straight bad seasons with a sub-.900 SV% in a loaded goalie market.

Colorado has a very similar core of players vs. Carolina, except Colorado has the better forwards and Carolina has the better defense (Makar is great and Girard/Johnson are very good, but depth still matters). Hall could very well pick Carolina as his best shot at the Cup.

He's basically coming off a long term deal at $6.1 mil AAV while his numbers have been regressing he's still a solid starter and perhaps the #1 Goalie in the UFA market. Even with Covid and the flat cap what i gave him is way more then fair. Need to remember that lesser guys like Talbot, Greiss and Khudobin could get anywhere from $3.5M to $4.0M per season over 2-3 years and Holtby is still as good as anyone of them.

Could see him signing a 1 yr deal (with $) with a contender and testing market again next offseason when teams know the cap will stay flat and can prepare for that and Seattle.
